Obituaries For Thursday, February 1

John Nathan Cooper, age 91 of Sparta, passed away January 31, 2018 at Life Care of Sparta. Mr. Cooper was born October 10, 1927. He is preceded in death by his parents, Nathan Cooper and Mae Cooper; his sister, Finabelle Ledbetter; and his wife, Marion Moorman Cooper. He served in the Navy from 1946 to 1948. After serving in the Navy, he obtained degrees from Tennessee Tech and the University of Tennessee. He taught Agriculture at Putnam County High School before returning to his true love of raising beef cattle on his farm in the Hickory Valley Community of White County. John is survived by his children, Cyndi Murdock of Cookeville, Susan Cooper and Barry Cooper of Sparta, his nephews, Hunter Lee Ledbetter of Sparta and John Ledbetter of FL and the daughters of Marion Cooper – Betty Dodson and Mimi Copeland of Cookeville. John was a member of First Baptist Church of Sparta. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Funeral services for Mr. Charles Ray McDonald, age 78, of Livingston will be conducted 2 p.m., Friday, February 2, 2018 from the chapel of the Livingston Funeral Home. Bro. Ricardo Rodriquez will officiate. Burial will be in the Aarons Chapel Cemetery. The family will welcome friends on Thursday evening from 6 until 9 p.m. at the Livingston Funeral Home. Mr. Charles Ray McDonald passed from this life on Tuesday morning, January 30, 2018 at Livingston Regional Hospital with his loving wife by his side. He was born in Overton County on October 13, 1939 to the late Arthur & Christene Keisling McDonald. Charles worked for many years in Furniture Manufacturing, and he enjoyed going to the the flea market.

Graveside services and interment for James Brown Millis M.D., age 87, of Nashville, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday February 3 at Crest Lawn Cemetery with Bro. Buddy Reeder officiating. Dr. Millis passed away Wednesday January 24, 2018 at The Village at Rockville in Rockville, MD. He was born October 28, 1930 in Baxter, TN to the late Dr. Roscoe Henry Millis and Maymie Effie Brown Millis. Following graduation from Baxter Seminary, Dr. Millis matriculated to Vanderbilt University. He earned his Doctor of Medicine Degree from UT Memphis in 1955. Dr. Millis completed his residency at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville and practiced for many years in Nashville as an obstetrician and gynecologist, delivering over 5000 babies. He was a clinical pioneer in the field of Obstetrical Ultrasound, bringing the first machine to Nashville and training physicians and technicians in its use. Following retirement from active practice, he worked in the social security disability field for a number of years.

Funeral services for Lucille Phipps, age 90 of Cookeville, will be held Saturday, February 3, 2018 beginning at 11:00 AM from the chapel of Crest Lawn Funeral Home with Bro. Ed Malone officiating. Interment will follow in Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery, in Cookeville. Ms. Phipps passed from this life Wednesday, January 31, 2018, at her home in Cookeville. She was born Saturday, January 7, 1928 in Hickman, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Allen and Nora (Couch) King. The most important thing in Lucille’s Life was her family. She and her Husband Floyd attended many years at Eastwood Baptist Church, and she loved her work for the Lord. She had a lifelong dream to be a nurse which she attained at the age of 53, receiving her Associates Degree from Columbia State College. Lucille was a registered nurse before her retirement from Cookeville Regional Medical Center. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday February 3, from 9:00 am until the time of service at 11:00 am. In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to the charity of your choice.

Funeral Services for Evelyn Dudney Nelson, age 90 of Sparta, will be held Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Curtis and Son Funeral Home North Chapel in Sylacauga with Brother Mike Kiser officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 10-11 AM at Curtis and Son North Chapel. Mrs. Nelson is survived by her daughter, Kathy Nelson Dodson and husband Gary of Sparta, TN.; Son, James Richard Nelson and wife Pat of Sylacauga; Sister, Martha Dudney Jones age 106 of Huntsville; Grandchildren, Tony Richard Nelson, Kellye Joann Nelson, Rachel Dodson Hunter and Melissa Dudney Conly; Great Grandchildren, Chase Hunter, Trey Hunter, Collins Hunter, Kaden Smallwood, Connor Smallwood and Rita Fallon.

Funeral Services For Sierra Marie Toney, Age 27, Of Crossville, Tennessee, And Formerly Of Hanging Limb, Tennessee, Will Be Conducted On Saturday, February 3, 2018, At 11:00 AM From The Chapel Of Goff Funeral Home. Rev. Richard Rollins And Pastor Harold Scroggins Will Officiate With Interment To Follow In The Hanging Limb Cemetery. Mrs. Toney Was Born On December 26, 1990, In Savannah, Georgia, To Michael Cook Of Panama City, Florida, And The Late Tonya Greathouse Smith. Mrs. Toney Passed Away On Friday, January 26, 2018, At Her Home. Mrs. Toney Was A Care Giver In The Health Care Field And Recently Worked With The Cumberland County High School In Crossville, Tennessee. She Was A Member Of The Bloodbought Ministries In Panama City, Florida. She Is Survived By, Her Husband, Dartanion Toney Of Crossville, TN; 2 Sons, Damien And Elijah Toney Of Crossville, TN; Stepfather, Lannie Smith Of Livingston, TN; Sister, Adrianna (Raymond) Hall Of Panama City, FL; And Brother, Michael James Cook Of Panama City, FL. The Family Will Receive Friends At Goff Funeral Home On Saturday, February 3, 2018, From 9:00 AM Until Time Of Services At 11:00 AM.

Funeral service for Johnny Ray Mahan, age 59 of Cookeville, will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 3, 2018 from the chapel of Crest Lawn Funeral Home with Bro. Johnny Fox and Bro. Christian Lomax officiating. Interment will follow in the Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. Mr. Mahan passed away on Wednesday, January 31, 2018, at his home. Johnny was born Friday, October 3, 1958 in Cookeville, Tennessee, he was the son of Oleen Rendy (Montgomery) and Clarence “C.G.” Mahan. Johnny worked as a cook for a number of years in several restaurants in the area. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Friday, February 2, 2018 and again Saturday, February 3, 2018 from 12:00 pm until time of services.

Funeral services for Brenda Elizabeth Stein, 59 of Madison, formerly of Sparta, will be held at 2pm on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Oak Lawn Funeral Home with Jeremy Allen and Tim Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Frasier’s Chapel Cemetery. Family will receive friends after from 4pm until 8pm on Friday, February 2, 2018 at the funeral home. Born Monday, December 1, 1958 in Sparta, Tennessee, she was the daughter of James and Bobbie Sue Guy Wallace. Brenda was a member of Landmark Pentecostal Church in Lebanon, Tennessee.

Celebration of Life for Charles “Chuck” Calvin Bos, age 77, of Cookeville, will be held this Saturday, February 3 from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm, at The Unity Church of the Cumberland’s, 823 E. 10th St, Cookeville. Chuck was born in Holland, Michigan. For all those who knew him, Chuck was a kind, loving and giving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. He touched so many lives with his warm smile, open heart, helpful hands and loving heart. Charles was one of many Shriner’s who drove children to the Shriners Burn hospital in Cincinnati. Charles is survived by his loving wife, Sandra Bos of 59 years. He and Sandra had six children, Douglas Bos, Thomas Bos, Charles Bos Jr., Christine Bos Corbett, David Bos and James Bos. In Lieu of flowers, donations made to the Shriners Children’s Hospital would be appreciated.
