Obituaries For Thursday, April 5

Ralph Tucker, 85 of Sparta, Tennessee passed away on Thursday, April 5, 2018, at his residence. He was born Thursday, February 9, 1933. He was the husband of Norma Tucker. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

A Celebration of Life Service for Douglas Brown Winford, age 72 of Cookeville, will be held at First Baptist Church in Cookeville at 6 p.m. on Thursday April 5th with Pastor Scott McKinney officiating. Doug went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday morning, April 3, 2018, at his residence. He was born November 14, 1945 in Lebanon. Doug grew up and attended school in Lebanon before earning his Bachelor’s in Wildlife Management and Master’s in Fisheries at TN Tech in Cookeville. He served his country in the United States Air Force from 1967-1970 as a loadmaster on C-130 Hercules aircraft. Doug was an active member at First Baptist Church in Cookeville where he served as a Deacon for many years. He was employed for 36 years with the US Fish and Wildlife Services working as an Assistant Field Supervisor. His job took him to Florida and South Carolina before moving back to Tennessee in 1980. Doug loved spending time outdoors with his family and friends and was an assistant Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 108 for over 10 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, hiking, golfing, cooking and spending time with his grandkids. Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Monette Brown Henry and Charles Crawford Winford; and brothers, William (Buddy) Winford and Bill Winford. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Mary Ruth Bobo Winford, who he married June 14, 1968; three children and five grandchildren, Brian Winford of Roseville, CA (grandchildren, Huck and Marin Winford), Eric Winford of Boise, ID, and Andrea Coffey (husband, Luke) of Knoxville (grandchildren, Jackson, Piper and Davis); sister, Patricia Trowbridge of Stuart, FL; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Winford of Portland, TN; and many loving nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Thursday from 3 p.m. until service time at the church. A Celebration of Life service for Mr. Fred L. England, age 75 of Cookeville, will be held Thursday April 5, 2018 beginning at 7:00 pm from the Chapel of Crest Lawn Funeral Home with Bro. Larry Self officiating. Mr. England passed from this life Tuesday, April 3, 2018, at his home in Cookeville. He was born Saturday, October 24, 1942 in Steubenville, Ohio, he was the son of the late David and Pauline (Wilson) England. He was a loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, and Brother. He was in the Silent Service of the U.S. Navy serving on the USS Senate SS408 receiving an Honorable Discharge. He gave his heart to the Lord in Community Baptist Church in Garden City, Michigan. He founded Bible Baptist Church in Kalispell, Montana which is still a soul winning Church today. He served in the mission field on the Island Of Guam in Christian Education in Independent Baptist Church. He retired from the Herald Citizen Newspaper in Cookeville. Mr. England is survived by his wife of 55 years, Nancy (Webber) England of Cookeville; 3 Daughters and 2 Sons-In-Laws: Tammy and Lynn Johnson of Sparta, Wendy England of Cookeville, Jennifer and Keith Kail of Knoxville; 7 Grandchildren: Billy and Delancey Qualls, Rebecca and Robert Holt, Rachel and Dustin Harris, Amanda, Alex, Aaren Kail; 10 Great Grandchildren Amara, Gracie, Abigayle, Sadie, Noah, Isaiah, Raye-Lynne, Annsleigh, Loretta, and Waylon; 2 Sisters and Spouses: Edith Jean and Bob Denhart, Nina and Craig Compher; A Host of Nieces Nephews and Cousins. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by: 1 Grandson, Bobby Lee Qualls, and a Brother, David Edward England. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday April 5, from 5:00 pm until time of service at 7:00 pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Cookeville Rescue Mission.

Graveside services for Mrs. Ethel Aletha Stover Gunnels, age 83, of the Hatcher Hall Community will be conducted 10 a.m., Friday, April 6, 2018 from the Hatcher Hall Cemetery. Rev. Hillier Duke will officiate. Mrs. Gunnels passed from this life on Tuesday evening, April 3, 2018 from the Livingston Regional Hospital. She was born June 26, 1934 in Overton County to the late Virgil & Ethel Sells Stover. Ethel was a housewife and a member of the Hatcher Hall Christian Church. She enjoyed crocheting & quilting. She loved gardening and cooking for her friends and family. She is survived by her sons, Randall Gunnels of Livingston, TN & Ronald Gunnels of Monroe, TN; brother, Joe Stover of Barberton, OH & sister, Amelia Hanahan of Marion, OH. In addition to her parents, Ethel was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Edward Gunnels; son, Richard Gunnels; sister, Oleta Smith; brothers, Lonzie Stover, Edward Stover, Kenneth Stover & 2 infant brothers. The family will welcome friends at the graveside.

Funeral Services for Mr. William Nathan Etheredge, 88 of Cookeville, will be held Friday, April 6, 2018 beginning at 12:00 Noon from the Chapel of Crest Lawn Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. Nathan passed away on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at his home in Cookeville. Nathan was born in McKenzie, Alabama, Wednesday, August 28, 1929 to the late” Lena Hester” and Elder Samuel W. Etheredge. He is survived by his wife Doris Etheredge of Cookeville; Daughters: Evelyn Crane (Don), Cinde Lucas (Rick), Tammy Etheredge, Karen Brown (Rodney); Sons: Larry Etheredge (Rita), Dennis Etheredge (Donna), Tim Cook (Lynn); 15 Grandchildren; 16 Great-Grandchildren; Sister: Frances Jones(Joe). In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by 2 sisters Minnie Lee, Melba, 4 brothers A. P., Claude, Warren and Leon. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday, April 06, from 10:00 am until the time of service at 12:00 Noon.

Funeral Services for Isaac Shepherd Mattson, 1 of Cookeville, will be held 5:00 PM on Friday, April 6, 2018 from the chapel of Crest Lawn Funeral Home with the Evangelist Rodney Pitts officiating. Isaac went to be with Jesus on Monday April 2, 2018. Isaac was born Tuesday, September 6, 2016 in Cookeville, Tennessee, he was the son of Arthur “Art” and Jennifer (Haley) Mattson. The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Friday, April 6, 2018, at Crest Lawn Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Mr. Joel Keith Brown, 78, of Gainesboro, will be held at 1 P.M. on Saturday, April 7, 2018, at Anderson – Upper Cumberland Funeral Home in Gainesboro. Burial will follow in the Maxwell Chapel Cemetery in Hilham. The family will receive friends on Friday from 3 P.M. – 8 P.M., and Saturday from 10 A.M. until time of services. He passed away on Tuesday, April 3, 2018, at St. Thomas West Hospital in Nashville. He was born November 25, 1939, in Hilham, to the late John K. Brown and Lona D. Brown. He was a construction worker. He loved gardening, enjoyed building things, and hard work. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 4 Brothers: Charles, Roger, Tom, and Melvin Brown; and 1 Sister: Wanda Joyce Ward. Survivors include 2 Sons: Greg K. Brown of Hilham, and Jeramy (Brown) Armonte of Cookeville; 1 Daughter: Tracey Brown of Cookeville; 5 Grandchildren; 1 Great Grandchild; 4 Brothers: William Merle Brown, Edward Brown, Carl Brown, and Jr. Brown; and 4 Sisters: Corrine Albertson, Lois Dial, Doris Ramos, and Kathy Cantrell.
