Rickie Darrel Cook, age 58, of Monterey, passed away on Thursday, February 1, 2018, at the Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Mr. Cook was born on July 18, 1959, In Monterey, to the Late David Cook and Willma Tayes Cook Sells. Mr. Cook was a block mason. He is survived by, 2 Daughters, Tasha Cook of Monterey, Nicki and Zach Maxwell of Baxter; 3 Sons, Farris Cook of Monterey, Logan Stamps of Monterey, Levi Stamps of Monterey; Grandchildren, Madison, Makayla, Makenzie Bowman of Monterey, Kileigh Cook of Monterey, Emma and Knox Maxwell of Baxter; 3 Sisters, Donna and Randy Hill of Crawford, Dorothy and Randy Newman of Sevierville, Janet and Darrel Melton of Monterey; 5 Brothers, Bill Cook of Monterey, Dave and Bobbie Cook of Hanging Limb, Jim and Dottie Cook of Monterey, Scotty Sells of Cravenstown, and Steve Sells of Cravenstown. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Braxton Bowman. His wishes of cremation with no services are being honored.
Mrs. Lorene Foster, 87 of Cookeville died Sunday February 4, 2018 at 12:18 a.m. in Signature Health Care in Algood. Arrangements are incomplete.
Mr. George McCorkmick, age 84 of Cookeville, died Monday, February 5th at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Arrangements for Mr. McCormick are incomplete.
Robert Roy Towne, 57 of Sparta, Tennessee passed away on Friday, February 2, 2018, at Saint Thomas Highlands Hospital in Sparta. Born Wednesday, March 30, 1960 in Salem, Massachusetts, he was the son of Robert and Janet Winchester Towne. The family has chosen cremation. No other services have been planned at this time.
Funeral services for Frank Medley, 84 of Cookeville, will be Monday, February 5 at 8 PM at Willow Avenue Church of Christ in Cookeville. Interment with military honors will be Tuesday, February 6 at 10 AM at Crest Lawn Cemetery. Bro. Johnny Fox will officiate. Frank died Friday Night, February 2, 2018 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. He was born July 28, 1933 in DeKalb County, TN to the Late Willie Howard and Bertha Delma Watts Medley. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by 2 brothers and sisters-in-law William David “J.C.” and Kerrin Medley, Wilfred and Doris Medley. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran, serving from 1953 to 1957 and was discharged as a Staff Sergeant. He was a member of the Strategic Air Command stationed in South Korea, Japan, Philippines and Little Rock, Arkansas. He was the longest active member of the Cookeville American Legion Post 46, a member since 1953 (65 years). He was a member of Baxter Church of Christ. Frank was a 1953 graduate of Baxter Seminary. He attended Tennessee Tech University, where he earned a BS in Education and a Master’s Degree and an EDS in supervision and administration. He began his teaching career at Jere Whitson Elementary School in the fall of 1961, teaching 8th grade. He transferred to Upperman High School in the spring of 1962, teaching Health, Physical Education, Driver’s Education and coaching basketball. He restarted the football program in the fall of 1962 that had ceased many years earlier. He was appointed Assistant Principal in 1973, appointed Principal in 1986 and retired in 1995. He was appointed to the Cookeville Housing Authority Board in 1996, chairman in 2009 and retired in 2012. After his retirement from school he worked part-time at the funeral home in Baxter. He enjoyed talking with everyone he met and many times had some member of their family in school. He had a passion for wood working. Over the years he built many pieces of furniture and in his later years built many small baskets, picture frames, walking canes, clocks and various other items. He served as Grand Marshall of the City of Baxter Veterans Parade and Upperman High School homecoming parade.
Funeral Services for Mr. Carl Stewart, Age 90, Of Taylor, MI., formerly of Cookeville, will be held Tuesday, 2-6-2018 at 11a.m. in the Chapel of Dyer Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Monday 5 pm-8 pm and Tuesday 10 am-11 am. Mr. Stewart died Wednesday January 28 at Beaumont Dearborn Hospital.
Graveside services for Robert Lee McCulley, 89, of Sparta, will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, at Howard Cemetery. Doug Goff will officiate. Oak Lawn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mr. McCulley passed away Feb. 3, 2017, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Mr. McCulley was the son of William Andrews McCulley and Eula Fay Farley. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Mary Belle McCulley; his parents; daughter, Barbara Daniels; son-in-law, Bill Fattore; and brother-in-law, Jack Stewart.
Memorial services for Carolyn Southerland Langston, age 79, of Cookeville will be held Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at 11:00 am in the chapel of Presley Funeral Home. Ms. Langston passed away Saturday, February 3, 2018 at NHC Healthcare of Cookeville where she had worked for 35 years. She was born April 3, 1938 to the late James Harvey and Rebecca Glover White. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Vickie Southerland and a son, Kevin Southerland. Carolyn is survived by one son, Michael Southerland of Baxter; three stepdaughters, Stephanie Harley and Dane Randolph of Cookeville and Stacy Gilmer of Nashville; sister, Kathy Nash of Baxter; brother, James C. White of Brighton, MI; three granddaughters, Amanda Southerland, Sarah Southerland, and Krystal Flatt; seven grandsons, Austin Harley, Jacob Harley, Ty Randolph, Bryson Randolph, Daniel Randolph, Tim Johnston, and Joey Gilmer; three great grandchildren, Meshala Southerland, DeShawn Southerland and Jaylin Thrasher. The family will receive friends Wednesday 9:00 am until service time at the funeral home.
Funeral services for Mrs. Edna Dobson, age 90 of Cookeville will be held Thursday February 8 at 12 noon in the Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Mrs. Dobson’s family will receive friends Thursday from 10 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Interment will be Friday at 12:30 p.m. (EST) at Chattanooga National Cemetery in Chattanooga. Mrs. Dobson died Sunday February 4, 2018 at 10:45 a.m. in Heritage Pointe Assisted Living in Cookeville.
Mr. David Wayne Sherrell, age 66, of Sparta, passed away Saturday morning February 3, 2018 at St. Thomas Highlands Hospital. Memorial services will be conducted 1:00pm Friday, February 9, 2018 from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with burial to follow in Plainview Cemetery in the Cassville Community. The family will receive friends from 11-1:00pm Friday at Hunter Funeral Home.
