Robert Salyers age 87, of Baxter passed away Saturday, August 4, 2018 at his home in Baxter, Tennessee following extended illness. Robert Salyers was born Thursday, April 09, 1931 in Paintsville, Kentucky to the late John Dove and Clova Salyers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy Arthur. He is survived by survived by: his wife of sixty-four years, Lucille Salyers; son, Joseph Robert Salyers of Cookeville; daughter, Debbie (Larry) Klem of Cookeville; grandchildren, Lisa, Nina, Nick, and Becky; brother, Jim (Edna) Franklin, Sebring, Florida; sisters, Mildred Shaver, Xenia, Ohio, Brenda (John) Whitamore, Fairborn, Ohio; several nieces and nephews. Interment will take place at a later date at Epiphany Cathedral, Venice, Florida.
Funeral and visitation services for Lidia Juan Nicolas, age 61, of Cookeville, will be from 9 a.m. until 12 noon on Tuesday August 7 at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. Lidia passed away Thursday August 2, 2018 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was born May 17, 2957 in Huehuetenango, Guatemala to the late Magdalena Juan and Nicolas Francisco Pablo of Guatemala. Lidia was a homemaker. She is survived by five daughters, Juana Francisco Juan, Lidia-Arias Jimeniz, Carina Ochoa, Juana Mateo Nicolas, and Magadelena Juan Nicolas.
Funeral services for Mrs. Vera May Loftis, age 76, of Cookeville, will be held Tuesday August 7th at 11:00 a.m. at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Entombment will follow at Crest Lawn Cemetery. Bro. Nolan Cantrell will officiate. She passed away Friday, August 3, 2018 at her residence. She was born January 9, 1942 in Byrdstown to the late Wayne and Willie Smith Riley. She lived in Indiana and Michigan and moved from Ohio to Cookeville in 1987 upon her husband’s retirement from General Motors. Vera is described as a special soul, a great and positive person who put the well-being of others before her own. She was a gifted homemaker who enjoyed sewing and cooking. She was a talented singer and guitar player. She attended Hilham Road Freewill Baptist Church and Brotherton Freewill Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Aron Paul Loftis; daughter, Cathy Jackson and husband Bill of Cincinnati, Ohio; son, Bennie Loftis of Cookeville; grandchildren, Mandy Loftis, Erica Martinez and husband Juan, Blake Loftis and wife Sandra and Hayley Jackson; and by greatgrandchildren, Mia Martinez and Annabelle Loftis. Vera’s family will receive friends Monday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and again Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
Funeral services for Patricia Ann Whittenburg, 70, of Cookeville will be held Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at 12 pm in the chapel of Presley Funeral Home with Frank Rodgers officiating. Interment will follow in Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday 10 am until service time at the funeral home. Patricia passed away Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at her daughter’s home in Cookeville. She was born November 26, 1947 in Buffalo Valley to the late Willard Staton Smith and Nanna “Lou” Norrod. Patricia was a homemaker. She loved eating sweets and drinking cokes. In addition to her parents, she was preceded by husband, Glenn Whittenburg, brother, Dillard Smith.
Funeral services for Mr. Wm. Stanley Acuff, 85, of Granville, will be held at 2 P.M. on Tuesday, August 7, 2018, at Anderson – Upper Cumberland Funeral Home in Gainesboro. Burial will follow in the Curry’s Chapel Cemetery on Shepardsville Hwy. in Jackson County. The family will receive friends on Monday from 6 P.M. – 8 P.M., and Tuesday from 1 P.M. until time of services. He passed away on Sunday, August 5, 2018, at his residence. He was born August 13, 1932, in Washburn, TN, to the late Ethan Allen Acuff and Montana Nicely Acuff. On March 4, 1953, he was married to Peggy Acuff, who survives. They were married for over 65 years. He was an insurance investigator, and a member of the New Hope Baptist Church. He also served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
Celebration of Life Service for Glenda Gribble, age 58, of Cookeville, will be held Tuesday, August 7, 2018at 6:00 p.m. with Jonathan Wood, Dr. James G. Staggs, and Stan Smith officiating. Private interment will be at the Rob Draper Memorial Cemetery in the Stone Community of Jackson County with Mike Palk and Joe Roberts officiating. Glenda passed away on Friday, August 3, 2018 at CarePartners Hospice Solace Center in Asheville, North Carolina. She will be remembered for the love and care she bestowed on those around her. Glenda was preceded in death by her father, Glyn B. Poindexter. Survivors include her husband, Robert Gribble of Cookeville; children, Emily (Jonathan) Wood of Asheville, North Carolina, and Curtis (Logan) Gribble of Nashville; mother, Mamie Anderson Poindexter of Cookeville; brother, Terry Poindexter of Cookeville, grandson, Blane Wilson Gribble of Nashville; as well as many nieces and nephews, both actual and “adopted”, who knew her as Aunt Glenda or GiGi. Friends are invited to a visitation with the family on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 beginning at 2:00 p.m. at Collegeside Church of Christ, 252 East 9th Street, Cookeville. In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions in Glenda’s honor may be directed to Happy Haven Home for Children (2311 Wakefield Drive, Cookeville, TN 38501); Dogwood Park (Cookeville Leisure Services, 45 East Broad Street, Cookeville, TN 38501); or to the donor’s favorite charity.

Mr. Harris passed away on Saturday, August 4, 2018 at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.
Funeral services for David Morgan Jared, 76 of Buffalo Valley, TN will be Wednesday, August 8 at 1 PM from the Baxter Chapel of Hooper Huddleston Horner Funeral Home. Interment with military honors will be in Jared Family Cemetery in Buffalo Valley. Bro. Houston Jared will officiate. Mr. Jared died Saturday, August 4, 2018 at his home. He was born Friday October 29, 1941 in Buffalo Valley to the late Houston and Ruby Maddux Jared. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Margaret Ann Smith Jared on March 18, 2017, a son Scott Kevin Jared. He was a 1959 graduate of Baxter Seminary and was a four year Veteran of the U. S. Air Force during the Vietnam Era. He retired in 2000 as a brakeman with Union Pacific Railroad with 38 years of service. Survivors include daughter Marlette Jared Stephens, son Houston (Lana) Jared, brother Joe (Judy) Jared all of Buffalo Valley, grandchildren: Ty Stephens, Morgan Stephens, Zach Jared, Ben Jared, Ashlan Jared, Austin Jared, Grace Margaret Jared, grandson on the way Timothy Huddleston Jared, great grandson on the way Bryson Edward Stephens. Family will receive friends Tuesday 5 to 8 PM and Wednesday after 10 AM at the funeral home.
Funeral services for Garry W. Stacy, 65, of Gainesboro, will be held at 1 P.M. on Wednesday, August 8, 2018, at Anderson – Upper Cumberland Funeral Home in Gainesboro. Burial will follow in the Stacy Cemetery in the Old Antioch community of Jackson County. He passed away on Sunday, August 5, 2018, at his residence. He was born June 1, 1953, in Jackson County, to the late Charles Lester Stacy and Carrie Cleo Stacy. On March 25, 1972, he was married to Brenda Joyce Stacy, who survives. He was a carpenter by trade. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 Brothers: Harold Stacy and Jimmy Lloyd Stacy; and 2 Sisters: Betty Irene Hammock and Georgia Crane. Survivors include his Wife: Brenda Joyce Stacy of Gainesboro; 1 Daughter: Shelia (Curtis) Norris of Hilham; 2 Granddaughters: Chelsea Norris and Mackenzie Norris; 2 Brothers: Cecil Gerald Stacy and Michael Stacy, both of Gainesboro; and 3 Sisters: Stella Rose Hammock of Gainesboro, Cappy Phillips of Gainesboro, and Brenda Clark of Cookeville. Several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends also survive. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 4 P.M. – 8 P.M., and Wednesday from 10 A.M. until time of services.
Graveside services for Mr. Rollie Lafayette Mayer, Jr., age 89, of Livingston will be conducted 2 p.m., Saturday, August 11, 2018 from the Overton County Memorial Gardens. Mr. Mayer passed from this life on Friday evening, August 3, 2018, from the Overton County Health & Rehab in Livingston. He was born in West Frankford, IL to the late Rollie Lafayette & Haydia Jeanette Brooks Mayer. Rollie worked for General Motors for many years. Baptist in faith, he enjoyed working, bowling and golfing. Rollie leaves his sons, Roger Mayer of Livingston, and Ronald Wood and wife Betty of Arizona; daughter, Patty Jo Serda of Pontiac, MI; 17 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren; brother, Phillip Mayer and wife Rosalie of Allons; sister, Zolonia Steffens of Livingston. In addition to his parents, Rollie was preceded in death by his wife, Dovie L. Mayer; son, Dennis Wood, and brother, Delbert Mayer. The family will welcome friends at the graveside.
