Mrs. Mary Bilbrey, age 77, of Algood passed away Sunday August 19 at NHC of Cookeville. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

Clyde Chester “Chet” Neal, Age 75, Of Livingston, Went Home To Be With The Lord On Sunday, August 19, 2018, At The Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Mr. Neal Was Born On March 9, 1943, In New Castle, Indiana, To The Late Clyde W. And Catherine Pierce Neal. Mr. Neal Was Retired From General Motors In Anderson, Indiana, Where He Worked For 42 Years. He Was A Member Of Life Church And Loved His Church Family. He Was A Loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, And Friend. He Is Survived By His Wife, Doris Looper Neal Of Livingston; Daughter And Son-In-Law, Lisa C. And Brian Inman Of Indianapolis, IN; Son And Daughter-In-Law, Allen J. And Carla Neal Of Sarasota, FL; Stepchildren, Lisa And Kevin Jackson Of Algood, Eric And Kim Fox Of Hilham; 6 Grandchildren, Jansen Wade, Jerika Wade, Matthew (Rachel) Jackson, Zachary (Maggie) Jackson, Levi (Anna) Fox, And Wade (Brooke) Fox; 4 Great Grandchildren, Alivia Baker, Hannah Baker, Charlotte Jackson, And Bennett Jackson; Sister, Dorothy Lee Of Albany, KY; Sisters-In-Law, Betty Neal Of Muncie, IN, Mary Swallows Of Rickman, Joyce Ray Of Algood; And Several Nieces And Nephews. In Addition To His Parents, He Was Preceded In Death By His Brother, Henry Neal; Sister And Brother-In-Law, Helen And Howard Crabtree; Brother-In-Law, Ralph Lee. His Wishes Of Cremation Are Being Honored With Memorial Services Planned For A Later Date. In Lieu Of Flowers, The Family Request Memorial Donations May Be Given To Life Church, 2223 North Washington Avenue, Cookeville, TN 38501.

Mrs. Edras Lucille “Lucy” Harvey Nevins, age 74, of Monroe, passed from this life on Sunday morning, August 19, 2018 from the Livingston Regional Hospital. She was born February 14, 1944, in Overton County to the late G. L. & Rubie Ellen Huddleston Harvey, who were native of Clay County. Lucy leaves her daughters, Edras Elaine Garcia, Sherry Ellen Blake, and Darla Ann Martin; sons, Ronald Gene Riley, and Roger Duane Riley; beloved step sons, Richard Lee Travelstead; 9 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Lucy was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Jack Nevins; daughters, Laurie Kay Martin, and Sherry Ellen Blake; stepson, James Gilbert “Truck” Travelstead. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

Funeral service for James Roland “Jim” Shanks, 64 of Sparta, will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2018, at First United Methodist Church, in Sparta. At Jim’s request, he will be cremated following the funeral. Jim passed away Aug. 17, 2018, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He is now resting safely in the arms of Jesus. Jim was born Dec. 15, 1953, the son of Thad and Madeline Shanks. Jim became a member of the Sparta-White County community more than 10 years ago. Since the first day he walked into The Expositor, as the new publisher, he made numerous lasting friendships through his contagious smile and his winning personality. Jim loved the “newspaper business,” but his family was his top priority. His wife, Pam, and his children, Sara and Michael, along with his grandson, Owen, were first and foremost in his mind. Jim also talked frequently about his mother, Madeline, and his brother, George, and his sister, Jane. In addition, he would laughingly share stories about the many lessons in life that were taught to him by his father, Thad. Jim was preceded in death by his father, Thad Shanks. Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Pamela Shanks, of Sparta; daughter, Sara Marie Shanks Sharp and husband Blake, of Cookeville; son, James Michael Shanks, of Cookeville; grandson, Owen Blake Sharp, of Cookeville; mother, Madeline Shanks, of Huntsville, Alabama; sister, Jane Bonham and husband James, of Houston, Texas; brother, George Shanks and wife Lynn, of Huntsville, Alabama; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends 5-8 p.m., Aug. 20, at the church.

Funeral services for Mr. Carlos L. Burroughs, age 98, of Cookeville will be conducted 1 p.m., Tuesday, August 21, 2018 from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home. Bro. Kerry Duke will officiate. Burial will be in the Netherland Cemetery. Mr. Burroughs passed from this life on Saturday evening, August 18, 2018 from the Bethesda Health Care Center in Cookeville. He was born in Overton County on December 26, 1919 to the late J.P. & Martha D. Haney Burroughs. Carlos was a member of the Church of Christ. He enjoyed hunting small game and raising beagle hounds. Carlos leaves his wife, Grace Evelyn Setser Burroughs of Cookeville; daughters, Gail Covington & husband Alec of Alpharetta, GA, Kathy Cooper & husband Sam of Cookeville, and Genevieve Fox; grandchildren, Kim Huntley & husband Steve of Livingston, Lydia Key & husband Dale of Cookeville, Dana Myers of Murfreesboro, and Davis Fox of Carthage; and several great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Carlos was preceded in death by his son, Claude Burroughs; sisters, Vallie Webb, and Ellie Swallows; brothers, Clyde, Fred, Lawrence, Clarence, and Carson Burroughs; late wife, Hassie Grace Burroughs. The family will welcome friends on Monday evening from 5 until 8 p.m., then on Tuesday from 12 noon until time of services at Speck Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Mr. Tony Cameron, age 54 of Sparta, will be conducted 11:00am Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with burial at New Bon Air Cemetery. Tony passed away Thursday, August 16th, 2018. Tony was born on September 13, 1963 in Sparta. He worked in the bakery section of Publix and enjoyed cooking in his off time. His nieces were his pride and joy. Tony is preceded in death by his father Carlton Howard Saturday and brother Scott Saturday. Survivors include his Mother: Carolyn Dunham of Sparta; Sister: Carol “Sissy” Saturday of Gallatin; Brothers: Barry (Leslie) Saturday of Nashville, Richie Dunham, Corey Dunham; Several nieces, nephews and aunts. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 4pm-8pm at the funeral home.

Funeral services for Mr. Eddie Gene Colson, age 71, of Monroe will be conducted 11 a.m., Wednesday, August 22, 2018 from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home. Bro. Harold Smith will officiate. Burial will be in the Whited Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided at graveside by the Overton County Vetrans Honor Guard. Gene passed from this life on Sunday evening, August 19, 2018 from the Pickett County Care & Rehab. He was born in Overton County, December 17, 1946, to the late William Edward & Loletta Lucille Shannon Colson. Gene was a 1964 graduate of Livingston Academy and a member of the Livingston First Baptist Church. Gene was a brick mason and a dedicated and faithful husband to his late wife Brenda. Gene leaves his brother, Jerry Colson of Monroe, TN; daughter, Teresa Cross of Charlotte, N.C.; son, Tom Keisling of Abilene, TX; grandchildren, Shane Keisling, Jessie Keisling, Quinton Cross, Owen Cross, Chase Cross, and Ellie Cross. In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his loving wife, Brenda Sue Colson. The family will welcome friends on Tuesday evening from 5 until 8 p.m. at Speck Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Mrs. Lucille Goolsby, 83, of Whitleyville, will be held at 2 P.M. on Wednesday, August 22, 2018, at Anderson – Upper Cumberland Funeral Home in Gainesboro. Burial will follow in the John L. Clark Memorial Cemetery in the Stone community of Jackson County. She passed away on Saturday, August 18, 2018, at her residence. She was born November 23, 1934, in Jackson County, to the late Esco Dodson and Cooper Bilbrey Dodson. On January 21, 1955, she was married to the late Omer D. Goolsby, who passed away March 31, 2018. She was a homemaker, and a teachers’ aide at North Springs Head Start. She was a member of the North Springs Church of Christ. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by 1 Son: Richard “Ricky” Eugene Goolsby; 1 Brother: Walter Junior Dodson; and 1 Sister: Merry Ellen Dodson. Survivors include 1 Son: Randy Goolsby of Whitleyville; 2 Daughters: Regina Goolsby of Carthage, and Amanda (Larry) Dillard of Gordonsville; 5 Grandchildren: Jesse Presley, Kaleb Ashburn, Kobe Ashburn, Tina (Cavin) Gudat, and Kelsey Ashburn; 1 Great Grandson: Jackson Whittemore; 3 Sisters: Marie Cannon of Smyrna, Anna Lee (Tony) Reina of La Vergne, and Linda (Billy) Warden of Murfreesboro; and 1 Sister-in-Law: Edna Dodson of Red Boiling Springs. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 4 P.M. – 8 P.M., and Wednesday from 10 A.M. until time of services. Funeral services for Lewis Alan Roberson, age 57, of Sparta will be held at Wednesday, August 22nd at 3 pm in the chapel of Presley Funeral Home. Mr. Roberson has chosen cremation following the funeral. Lewis Alan Roberson was born Saturday, September 10, 1960 in Dayton, Ohio to the late Delbert Lewis Roberson and Antoinette Witunski Roberson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Kathy Roberson. He is survived by: son, Justin (Ashley) Roberson of Rickman; grandchildren, Jonathan, Brayden, and Grayson Roberson, all of Rickman; brother, Tom (Anne) Roberson of South Carolina; sister, Rhonda (Joe) Langenback of Sparta; nieces, Melissa and Misty Jane Roberson of Florida. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 22, 2018, 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM at Presley Funeral Home.

The family of Amy Michelle Lynch, age 33, of Cookeville will receive friends on Thursday, August 23, 2018, 4:00 PM – 6:30 PM at Presley Funeral Home. Amy had chosen to be cremated after the visitation. Amy Michelle Lynch passed away Friday, August 17, 2018 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center in Cookeville following brief illness. She was born Thursday, June 20, 1985 in Cookeville to William R. Lynch and the late Leanne McBee Lynch. She is survived by: her husband, Matt Cope; sons, Waylon Cope and Sullivan Cope.

Memorial Services for Mrs. Newbold, age 68, of Gainesboro will be held Thursday, August 23, 2018 at 5 P.M. the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Memorial services for Joe Douglas Taylor, 41 of Sparta, will be held at 4pm on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at First Community Church on Taft Church Road with James Hasty officiating. Joe passed away on Friday, August 17, 2018, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He was born Monday, October 18, 1976 in Sparta. He is survived by his wife, Debbie Taylor of Sparta; son, Ryan Taylor (Nora Passons) of Sparta; daughters, Casey Taylor of Sparta and Sarah Taylor of Sparta; step-son, Jordan Holman of Sparta; step-daughter, Meredith Holman of Sparta; parents, Jerry and Hannah Rose Taylor of Sparta; sister, Jill Trute (Benjamin) of Sparta; nephew, Jacob Trute of Sparta; many aunts, uncles, friends and neighbors also survive. The family will receive friends from 1pm until time of the service at the church.

A Celebration of Life Gathering for Diedri “De” Sue Carlin, 73, of Cookeville, will be Saturday September 1 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the River Community Church. De passed away suddenly Friday morning August 17, 2018 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was born April 22, 1945 in Los Angeles, CA to the late Harlan and Donna Seright Updegraff. De was an Registered Nurse for 44 years, having worked at Cookeville Regional Medical Center for eight years prior to retirement in 2016. She was a member of the River Community Church and loved to spend time with her friends, the “River Chicks.” She and husband Jerry were members of the Pistons Car Club. De is survived by her husband, Gerald “Jerry” Carlin of Cookeville, who she married December 6, 1980 in Atlanta, IL; daughter, Kimberleigh (Robert) Davis of Huntington Beach, CA; brother, Harlan Updegraff III of Granville; five grandchildren, Luke, Matthew and Andrew Davis of Huntingon Beach, Cody Dodd of Cookeville, and Lyndsay Dodd of Dublin, GA; nieces, Sarah Hollar of Anaheim, CA, Christie Roberts of Colorado Springs, CO, and Amanda (Drew) Lyndsay of Athens. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her step-daughter, Jerri Lynn Dodd; and step-son, Michael Carlin. Because of De’s love for animals, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Cookeville/Putnam County Animal Shelter, 2650 Gainesboro Grade, Cookeville, TN 38501.
