Funeral services for Mr. Jack L. Spears, age 74 of Allons, will be held Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at 10 AM from the chapel of the Hall Funeral Home of Livingston with burial to follow in the Spears Family Cemetery located in Allons. Mr. Spears passed away from this life on Saturday morning, March 31, 2018 at his residence. Mr. Jack L. Spears was born in Celina on October 26, 1943 to the late A.B. and Ethel (Smith) Spears. Jack was a truck driver for many years. He is survived by: 1 Daughter: Sonya and husband Kenneth Kelley; 6 Sisters: Betty Smith and husband Bill, Bonnie Cottingham and husband Tony, Sherry Webb and husband Gary, Faye Conatser, Terri Taylor and husband Keith, Kim Spears; 5 Brothers: Gary Spears, Larry Spears, Steve Spears, Mike Spears, Denny and wife Carol Spears; Special Friends: Lisa McKenny. He is preceeded in death by his parents A.B. and Ethel (Smith) Spears. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, April 2, 2018 starting at 6 PM until 9 PM.

A graveside service for John Elvin Fattig, Jr., age 93 of Sparta, will be at the Veterans’ National Cemetary in Chattanooga Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at 1:30pm EST with military honors presented by the Navy Honor Guard. Mr. Fattig passed away Sunday, April 1, 2018 at Alive Hospice, Nashville. Mr. Fattig was born June 7, 1924, to the late John and Lucy Emma Wise Fattig in Gloucester, Massachusetts. John enlisted in the U.S. Navy immediately after high school in 1943. While at Great Lakes Naval Training Center in Chicago, he met Mardelle Saxsma from Harvey, Illinois. John and Mardelle were married in 1945. After discharge from the Navy, they returned to Harvey, Illinois to live and John worked with Illinois Bell Telephone Company. After retiring 36 years ago John traveled and moved several times with his wife. They settled in Tennessee 20 years ago, living in Sparta, most recently at Life Care Center of Sparta. John’s recent illness came after the death of his wife in February. His surviving family includes: Sister: Elizabeth M. Tuomivirta of Gloucester, MA; Son: John E. Fattig, III of Cupertino, CA; Daughter: Lana Freeburg and husband Quentin of Plymouth, MN; Grandchildren & Their Families: Jessica Kauffman & husband Tim, children, Kathryn, Melissa and Nathan of Plymouth, MN; Angela Willoughby & husband Rob, children, RoseLynn, Ryland, Abigail and Andrew of Tallinn, Estonia; John Freeburg & Katie Koivisto, children, Aurora and Henson of Burnsville, MN.

Funeral services for Mrs. Liza Jane Threet Cravens, age 82, of the Crawford Community will be conducted 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 3, 2018, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Cub Cemetery. Mrs. Cravens passed from this life on Friday morning, March 30, 2018 in the comfort of her home. She was born in Overton County, on July 8, 1935 to the late Otis Lark & Susie Hargis Threet. She was a homemaker and a true mountain woman who loved to live off the land. She loved nothing better than to walk through the woods looking for ginseng. In the spring of the year she would know right where to look for Dryland Fish and take just enough so they would come back next spring. Liza loved flowers of all kinds and gardening. Her favorite flower was blue hydrangeas’. She pieced together wonderful quilt tops, making each design herself. She loved being outdoors and watching her humming birds. She took great joy in all 8 of her grandchildren, teaching them one by one about the things she loved most. Mrs. Liza Jane is survived by her sons, James Cravens of Crossville, Arnold Threet and wife Teresa of Cookeville, Teddy Joe Cravens of Crawford & step-son, Ernie Cravens & wife Sandra of West Union, OH; daughters, Cathy Cravens of Cookeville & Carmel Maynord & husband Charles of Livingston; grandchildren, Mary Faye, Katie, Audrey, Sarah Jane, Haley Jane, Andrew, Silas & Gabe. In addition to her parents, Liza Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Hessel Cravens; sons, Michael Cravens & Terry Wayne Cravens; brothers, Bailey Issac, Johnathan, Ike & Irvin Threet; sisters, Minda, Halie, Elan, Hazel & Louvenie. The family will welcome friends on Monday evening from 5 until 8 p.m. at Speck Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Mr. Gerald C. “Cheetie” Anderson, age 86, of Livingston will be conducted 1 p.m., Wednesday, April 4, 2018 from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home. Bro. Joel Chappell Sr. will officiate. Burial will be in the Overton County Memorial Gardens, with Military Honors provided by the Overton County Veterans Honor Guard. Mr. Anderson passed from this life on Sunday, April 1, 2018 from the Overton County Health & Rehab Center. He was born in Clay County on November 11, 1931 to the late Haston & Edris Stover Anderson. Cheetie was a residential painter for many years, and enjoyed to fish and bird hunt. Mr. Anderson is survived by his loving daughter, Betha Wilson & husband Carlos of Livingston; grandson, Matt Wilson & wife Felicia of Cookeville; great granddaughters, Ava & Macy Wilson; sister, Frances King of Huntsville, AL; half-brothers, Joe Anderson & Jacky Bilbrey; half-sister, Sharon Williams of Crossville. In addition to his parents, Cheetie was preceded in death by his infant brother & half-sister, Sherry Anderson. The family will welome friends on Tuesday evening from 5 until 8 p.m.

Funeral services for Etta Mae Jackson Deering, age 93 of Sparta, will be conducted 1:00pm Wednesday, April 4, 2018 from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with burial in Okalona Cemetery in Rickman, Tennessee. Ms. Deering entered her heavenly home on a glorious Easter morning, April 1, 2018. Ms. Deering was born January 8, 1925 in the Okalona Community near Rickman, to the late Walter & Gertrude Leonard Jackson. She worked many years at the Sparta Shirt Factory and spent her life enjoying her flowers, gardening and helping others. Anyone who knew her, knew that she never met a stranger. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband, Ardell Deering; brothers Bedford & Fred Jackson and a sister Lennie Dee Strange. Ms. Etta Mae is survived by her loving neighbors, Tim, Billie Sue, Jenna & Lexi Johnson, whom she cared for as if they were her own children, who loved and cherished her deeply in return. She is also survived by some very dear and special friends, Betty Case, Kurt & Felecia Smith of Cookeville. Ms. Deering also leaves behind nieces Laura (Danny) Smith of Pikeville, Barbara Jackson of Crossville and nephew Jimmy (Kim) Jackson of Signal Mountain. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5-8:00pm at Hunter Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Mr. Omer D. Goolsby, 86, of Whitleyville, will be held at 2 P.M. on Wednesday, April 4, 2018, at Anderson – Upper Cumberland Funeral Home in Gainesboro. Burial will follow in the John L. Clark Memorial Cemetery in the Stone community of Jackson County. He passed away on Saturday, March 31, 2018, at his residence. He was born April 27, 1931, in Gainesboro, to the late Fowler Goolsby and Cynthia Goolsby. On January 21, 1955, he was married to Lucille Goolsby, who survives. He was a member of the North Springs Church of Christ, and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He farmed, and owned Goolsby’s Service Station in North Springs. He also worked at the Pepsi Plant in Cookeville, and at the Livingston Chocolate Plant until he retired at 80 years old. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 1 Son: Richard “Ricky” Eugene Goolsby; 3 Brothers; and 1 Sister. Survivors include his Wife: Lucille Goolsby of Whitleyville ; 1 Son: Randy Goolsby of Whitleyville, TN; 2 Daughters: Regina Goolsby of Carthage, and Amanda (Larry) Dillard of Elmwood, TN; 5 Grandchildren: Jesse Presley, Kaleb Ashburn, Kobe Ashburn, Tina (Cavin) Gudat, and Kelsey Ashburn; 1 Great Grandson: Jackson Whittemore; 2 Brothers: Buddy (Minnie Lou) Goolsby of Gainesboro, and Aaron (Winell) Goolsby of Sparta; and 4 Sisters: Estelene (Ed) Nemore of Cookeville, Sue Bilbrey of VA, Ida Mae Carter of Whitleyville, and Jean Long of Gainesboro. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 4 P.M. – 8 P.M., and Wednesday from 10 A.M. until time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to help with funeral expenses by contacting the funeral home.
