Obituaries For Friday, September 21

Kenneth Douglas Bennett , 77 of Doyle,  passed away on Friday, September 21, 2018, at Saint Thomas Highlands Hospital in Sparta. He was born on Tuesday, September 16, 1941 in Sparta. Mr. Bennett loved gardening and enjoyed sharing the crops that he grew. He also loved farming and raising chickens. Surviving are daughters, Mary Fisher of Doyle, Darlene Bennett of Sparta, and Lorenda Bennett of Doyle; son, Alan Bennett of Spencer; grandchildren, Terry Dodson, Rosa Fisher, and Mickey Fisher; and great grandchldren, Ethan, Emma, Jimmy, Easton, and Laton. In addition to his parents, Kenneth Earl Bennett and Mary Lou Bradshaw Bennett, Mr. Bennett is also preceded by his two sisters, Frances Johnson and Mildred Fox; three brothers, Robert Bennett, Donnie Bennett, and Arnold Bennett; and grandson, Markus Jack Bouldin. The family has chosen cremation. No other services have been planned at this time.

Ralph Michael Barger, 62 of Sparta, passed away on Thursday, September 20, 2018, at Saint Thomas Highlands Hospital. He was born Monday, August 6, 1956 in Dayton, Ohio, he was the son of the late Ralph and Mattie Wheeler Barger. He enjoyed computers and watching wrestling on television. He was also a member of the Jefferson Avenue Church of Christ. He is survived by his wife, Beverly Barger of Pegram, Tennessee; son, Alexander Barger of Ohio; daughter, Ariana Barger of Ohio; daughter, Bethany of Illinois; step-children, Kaitlyn Asher, Melisa Asher, and Robert Asher. He was preceded in death by his parents.  The family has chosen cremation. No services have been scheduled at this time.

A Memorial Gathering for Lewis Richard Betteron, 77 of Sparta, will be held from 4:30pm until 7pm on Friday, September 21, 2018 at Oak Lawn Funeral Home. Mr. Betterton passed away on Saturday, September 15, 2018, at Saint Thomas Highlands Hospital. He was born Saturday, October 12, 1940 in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Mr. Betterton was a loving husband and a caring father who was devoted to his community with Cherry Creek Volunteer Fire Department. He started the community’s fire department in 1984 and completed his service there as Chief, attending every breakfast, shooting match, and other community events. He is survived by his wife, Helene Betterton; son, Lewis Betterton (Bethany); daughter, Victoria Montandon (Matt); daughter, Julie Mountain (Jeremy), grandchildren, Evan , Augusta, Riley, and Dixie Betterton, and Diane Harris; great grandson, Gabriel; son-in-law, Steve Kerpics, and sister in law Dolores Zaloga. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Helene Kerpics and grandson, Ethan.

Memorial services for Patricia Levenne Dillon, age 69, of Cookeville, will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday September 22 at Holladay Church of Christ. Bro. Johnny Fox will officiate. Mrs. Dillon passed away Sunday morning September 9, 2018 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. The family will receive friends Saturday September 22 from 10:30 a.m. until time of service at the church.

Memorial services for Mr. Billie “Bill” Bowman, 71, of Cookeville, will be held at 12 Noon on Saturday, September 22, 2018, at Anderson – Upper Cumberland Funeral Home in Gainesboro. He wished to be cremated, and his family has followed his wishes. He passed away on Wednesday, September 19, 2018, at Signature Health Care Center in Algood. He was born October 2, 1946, in Gainesboro, to the late Ralph Bowman and Jo Helen Roberts Bowman Stewart. On May 7, 1965, he was married to Dianne Bowman, who survives. He worked as a Frontier telephone supplyman, and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam Era. He was a past president of IBEW, and a member of the Cookeville Masonic Lodge. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 1 Sister: Betty Vanhooser. Survivors include his Wife: Dianne Bowman of Cookeville; 1 Son: Billy (Alicia) Bowman of Cookeville; 1 Daughter: Donna (Tommy) Bowman-Phy of Cookeville; 5 Grandchildren: Lacie Rice, Jonathan (Tiffany) Rice, Logan Bowman, Sydney Bowman, and Dalton Phy; and 1 Brother in Law: Joe Frank Vanhooser of Biloxi, MS. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 10 A.M. until time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation or the Shriners Hospitals for Children by contacting the funeral home.

Mr. Whittaker Passed Away On Tuesday, September 18, 2018. Mr. Whittaker Was A Private Healthcare Giver. He Is Survived By, 2 Sisters, Robin Hotsinpiller Of Albany, KY, Reanna Reagan Of Grimsley; And 1 Brother, Daniel Hotsinpiller Of Nashville. Verna Seager Will Officiate With Interment To Follow In The Welch Memorial Cemetery. Ms. Whittaker Was Born On December 4, 1948, In Montgomery, Ohio, To The Late Charles And Cora Ford Whittaker. Ms. Whittaker Passed Away On Wednesday, September 19, 2018, At Her Home. Ms. Whittaker Was A Former Certified Nurse Assistant. She Was A Member Of Monterey Church Of God Of Prophecy. She Is Survived By, 4 Sisters And 2 Brothers-In-Law, Brenda Cravens Of Monterey, Leona Phillips Of Monterey, Ina And Terry West Of Monterey, Becky And Phil Black Of Monterey; And 2 Brothers, Jeff Whittaker Of Monterey, James “Doc” Whittaker Of Algood. In Addition To Her Parents, She Was Preceded In Death By Her Sister, Robbie Hotsinpiller. Military Honors for Mr. Billie Gordan Longmire, age 86, of Monterey, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday September 22 at Horner Funeral Home in Monterey. Mr. Longmire passed away suddenly Saturday September 15, 2018 at his home. The family will receive friends Saturday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Graveside services for Ronnie Howard Ligon, 85, of Cookeville will be held Saturday, September 22, 2018 at 1:30 at Odd Fellows Cemetery with Walter Phillips officiating. Mr. Ligon passed away Friday, September 7, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 17, 1933 in Baxter, Tennessee to the late Charles M. Ligon and Hester Campbell Ligon. He graduated from Upperman High School in 1951 and attended Tennessee Technological University. Mr. Ligon served in the United States Army during the Korean War. After his military service, he joined the Tennessee Highway Patrol in Cookeville, Tennessee and remained until his retirement. After retiring from the THP, he accepted a position with the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department. While there, he worked at the Criminal Justice Center as security for the courtrooms. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of more than 65 years, Eva Ann Jones Ligon; infant sister, Charlyn Ligon and brother, Bobby James “Mickey” Ligon. Mr. Ligon is survived by two daughters and son in law, Sherry Ligon (Marciano Roberts) and Terry Gail Ligon; one grandson, Clay Brandon Sherrell; one granddaughter, Dusty Sherrell Clark; three great grandchildren, Alexis, Kaylee and Chloe Clark. His family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday, September 22, 2018 from 11:00am until 1:00 pm prior to service time.

Funeral services for Mr. Donald E. Groce, age 67, of Livingston will be conducted 2 p.m., Sunday, September 23, 2018 from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Overton County Memorial Gardens.  Mr. Donald Groce passed from this life in the comfort of his home on Thursday evening, September 20, 2018. Donald was born January 7, 1951 in Overton County to the late Luther General & Anna Beatrice Stover Groce. Donald loved being in the outdoors hunting deer. He was always on the look for deer no mater where he was. Donald also loved and enjoyed being with his family. Donald leaves his daughter, Shelley Groce of Livingston; grandchildren, Heather Clark and Logan Harris both of Livingston; great-grandchildren, Marius, Lillian, Jayden & Sarah Maleya; sister, Sue Roberts & husband James Ester of Upland, IN. Donald was preceded in death by his parents. The family will welcome friends on Saturday evening from 5 until 9 p.m. at Speck Funeral Home.

Funeral Service for Jacqueline L. Burlingame, 73 of Cookeville, will be at the Crest Lawn Funeral Home at 3:00 PM on Sunday, September 23, 2018 with Bro. Wayne Price and Bro.Wade Givens officiating. Burial will follow in the Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery cemetery. Jacqueline  passed away on Thursday, September 20, 2018 at Signature Health Care of Putnam County. Jacqueline was born in Alpena, MI on Monday, May 07, 1945 to the late Hubert Ramsuer and Madeline (Morley) Ramsuer. Jacqueline married Floyd (Butch) Burlingame on July 9, 2018. 2 Daughters: Edwina Irwin, Connie (Danny) Strong; 1 Son: James (Makayla) Fox; 10 Grandchildren; 7 Great Grandchildren; 4 Stepdaughters: Sandy, Carol, Cathy and Debbie; 3 Stepsons: Roger, Tim and John; 11 Step Grandchildren; 3 Step Great Grandchildren. Family will receive friends Saturday, September 22, 2018 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Crest Lawn Funeral Home and also on Sunday September 23, 2018 from 1:00PM till time of service.

There will be a Celebration of Life for Noble Hooper Stout, Jr., 69 of Cookeville, held at Presley Funeral Home on Monday, September 24, 2018 from 3:00-6:00 PM. Noble passed away Friday, September 7, 2018 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Noble was born in Jackson County on July 12, 1949 to the late Noble Hooper Stout and Mable Carter Stout. He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Patsy (Pat) Hinrichsen Stout of Cookeville; mother Mable Carter Stout Maddux of Baxter; son Bo (Jennifer) Stout of Wilder; son Brandon (Alie) Stout of Verona, KY; step-son Michael (Erin) Carpinito of Kent, WA; step-daughter Theresa (Alex) Kira of San Francisco, CA; grandchildren Tylan Stout, Tatyn Stout and Banks Stout; step-grandchildren Brianna Carpinito and Michael Carpinito, Jr. Noble was with the City of Cookeville Water/Sewer Department for nearly 23 years and retired in 2004. Over the past 50 years, he was well known for following his passion of raising, training and showing Tennessee Walking Horses. He also thoroughly enjoyed his time spent with fishing buddies on Cordell Hull Lake. Since his retirement, he and Patsy traveled throughout the United States and abroad, with and without their horses. With his infectious smile and heart of gold, Noble was one of a kind who didn’t hesitate “stirring the pot.”

Memorial services for Willene Judd Reed, 89, of Cookeville will be held Saturday, September 29, 2018 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Presley Funeral Home with Bro. Kevin Daughrity and Horace Burks officiating. Inurnment will follow in Smyrna Cemetery. Mrs. Reed passed away Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at her home. She was born Saturday, October 13, 1928 in Cookeville, TN to the late Walter Carr and Inda Judd. Mrs. Reed spent part of her life in Roseville, MI where she was a homemaker. She attended Sycamore and Zion Church of Christ. Willene loved taking care of her family and spending time with them and her friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Reed and a brother, Walter Judd. Willene is survived by son, Rick Reed and wife Pam of Cookeville; daughter, Sharon Lee and husband Francis of Lebanon, TN; four grandchildren, Tiffany Reed of Chattanooga, Will Reed of Cookeville, Jacob (Kayla) Lee of Lebanon and Josh (Kelly) Lee of Ramsey, NJ; six great grandchildren; brother in law, Tom Reed and wife Carolyn of Arizona. The family will receive friends Friday, September 28, 2018 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. The family request memorial contributions be made to Sycamore Church of Christ for their SOC college group, 1144 Crescent Dr. Cookeville, TN 38501.
