Ms. Abigail Lea Pack, age 19 of Sparta, passed away Thursday morning March 1, 2018 as a result of an automobile accident. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.
Mr. Harold Christensen, age 87 of Livingston, passed from this life on Thursday, March 1, 2018 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Harold is survived by his wife, Shirley Christensen, of Livingston; sons David Christensen & Randy Christensen; daughters Carolyn Sells & Debra Johnson. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.
Eugene Venable Redwine, 85 of Sparta passed away on Wednesday, February 28, 2018, at his residence. Born Sunday, February 26, 1933 in Crab Orchard, he was the son of the late Jack and Cleo Monday Redwine. He was the husband of Naomi Martin Redwine. Surviving are his wife, Naomi Redwine of Sparta; daughters, Angela Marketa Redwine of Rocky River Community and Sherry Jackson (Michael) of Cookeville. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
A receiving of friends for Charles Thomas “Chuck” Sullivan, age 61 of Walling, will take place Friday, March 2, 2018 from 5-8:00pm in the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home. There will be no service. At Chuck’s request, he will be cremated following the visitation. Mr. Sullivan passed away Wednesday morning at his residence. Chuck was born June 15, 1956 in Detroit, Michigan to Darlene Stephanie Schroeder and the late Charles Denton Sullivan. He was a former factory worker at Cantex and Red Kap. Surviving family members include his three children and their spouses: John & Jamie Sullivan, Joe & Cecellia Sullivan all of Sparta, Misty & Brian Baltierra of Walling.
Celebration of Life services for Mr. Roy Riser, age 96, of Livingston will be conducted at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 3, 2018 from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home. Bro. Randy Tompkins will officiate. Mr. Riser passed from this life on Tuesday evening, February 27, 2018 from Heritage Pointe in Cookeville. He was born on April 4, 1921 in Bemidj, MN to the late Oscar and Marie J. Tollerud Riser. Oscar and Marie became engaged in Norway, and they then immigrated to the United States in 1903 to Austin, MN, where they married. Roy was raised in rural Grygla and Nashwauk, MN. Roy had 10 siblings, all of whom preceded him in death. Roy enlisted in the Navy in 1942 after hearing of the Pearl Harbor attack, and had a distinguished 20 year flying career in WWII and the Korean War. He flew seaplanes in the Pacific and received 2 Distinguished Flying Crosses and 5 Air Medals for heroic action rescuing downed pilots. Following the Korean War, Roy flew in several Navy squadrons including the Hurricane Hunters, flying into the eye of hurricanes and tracking the storms. He later flew the DEW (Distant Early Warning) Line across the Arctic Circle guarding against surprise attacks by the USSR. Roy was also known for enjoying flights with dogs he had over the years, and he even maintained log books for his canine co-pilots. Roy was believed to have over 50,000 flying hours, making him the best-known and most highly respected pilot in the flying community of the Southeast. His incredible flying career of 72 years continued into his early 90’s. Roy is survived by his wife, Audrey Tompkins Riser, and his three children, Roy Elliott Riser, Cynthia Riser Reinholtz, Shirley Riser Strickland and her husband Alan, and granddaughters, Stefanie Strickland, Alison Strickland Dos Remedios and her husband Neil, and great-grandson Pierce. Roy is also survived by step-son, Tim Conatser and his wife LaRue, their two daughters, Katie and Emily Conatser, and Liping Conatser, the wife of his late step-son, Michael Conatser. He is also survived by Audrey’s three children, Regina Tompkins Billings and her children, Matthew and Emily Billings; Douglas Tompkins and wife Mary and their children, Christa Tompkins and Sarah Kennedy; and Greg Tompkins and wife Debbie and their children, Amanda and Miranda Tompkins. Roy was preceded in death by Margaret Minerich Riser, the mother of his children, and Linda Jane Riser, the mother of his step-sons, and his son-in-law, Chris Reinholtz. The family will welcome friends on Saturday at the time of the service.
A family service for Edward M. Dyess, age 91 of Cookeville, will be held Saturday, March 3, at 11:00 a.m. at the Cookeville Hooper-Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Algood City Cemetery. Edward passed away peacefully and went to be with his Lord on Thursday, March 1, 2018. Edward was born on May 2, 1926, in Brushy Creek, Louisiana. He was raised on a farm in rural Louisiana during the depression years. In 1944, during WWII, Edward joined the Navy. In July 2, 1945, he married Betty J. Johnston during his Navy service in San Diego. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Edward always had a love of the great outdoors. Although he had different vocations, he always enjoyed growing a large garden. During the 71 years of their marriage, Edward and Betty lived in California, Minnesota, Louisiana, Texas, and most recently in Cookeville. Edward’s deep faith in the Lord Jesus Christ was evident throughout his life to his family and friends. He served the Lord for many years as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, and many other positions of ministry in churches in California, Minnesota, Louisiana, and Texas. Edward is survived by his daughter, Cheryl (David) Carlson of Cookeville; sons, David (Theresa) Dyess of El Prado, NM, and Steven (Betty) Dyess of Rochester, MN; grandchildren, Mark Carlson, Kristin (Steven) Bradshaw, Rachel (John) Rollyson, and Emily (Bryan) Klepperich; seven great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Edward was preceded in death by his wife, Betty J. Dyess, and 11 brothers and sisters.
Funeral services for Judy Ellen Roberson, age 75, of Cookeville will be held Saturday, March 3rd, 2018 at 11:00 am in the chapel of Presley Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Brown’s Mill Cemetery. Judy went home to be with Jesus on Monday, February 26, 2018 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center after a long struggle with illness. She was born Tuesday, February 23, 1943 in Anahuac, Texas to Paul Perry and Mary Smith. The family moved from East TX to LA and settled in Belle Chasse. This is where she met and married her husband Howard, of Algood, on November 18, 1961. His job in the Coast Guard soon took them to Alaska where they spent a good portion of their married life and raised three sons. While in Anchorage, she went to work for a day care, which she eventually bought. During her time there she impacted the lives of many children. Some of these kids and well as the friends of her sons continue to call her mom to this day. After retiring, she moved, with Howard, to Cookeville to be near her grandsons. This is where she would spend the rest of her life. Judy is survived by her husband Howard and two of her three sons, Tim and Butch; her grandsons, Tyler, Shelby (and their wives Katie and Shannon) as well as Jamie and a granddaughter Kristen. The family will receive friends on Friday, March 2, 2018, 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM and Saturday, March 3, 2018, 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM at Presley Funeral Home.

Interment will follow at Double Springs Cemetery. Hilari Autumn Scott, 42, of Baxter, passed away on Sunday, February 25, 2018. She was born on October 19, 1975 to Lawrence Duane Brown and Debra Kay Kelderman Brown in Marshalltown, IA. On September 2, 2006, Hilari was united in marriage to Lewis Osby Scott. She was a graduate of Marshalltown High School class of 1994. She graduated with a bachelor’s in marketing in 2009. Hilari worked for GE Healthcare as a Product Manager on the Centricity product line. Hilari worked in many capacities over the years including support and training. She was well-respected amongst her colleagues and was passionate about the success of her customers. Hilari was a member of the Trinity Assembly Church. Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Lewis Scott; Children: Levi Scott, Lance Scott, Helena Scott and Madelyn Scott. Her parents: Lawrence Duane (Cindy K.) Brown of De Soto, Texas and Debra Kay (Robert) Kelderman of The Colony, Texas. Her brother, Lawrence (Lance) Duane Brown II. Hilari is preceded in death by her sister, Michelle Lei Simpson (Brown) in 2011. Great Grandparents, Lillian and Raymond Barker. Ms. Bohannon Was Born On April 29, 1948, In New Kensington, Pennsylvania, To The Late Leland Laverne And Betty Jane Groves Blystone. Ms. Bohannon Was A Custodian At Monterey High School For Many Years. She Is Survived By, 1 Daughter, Cynthia Shuffett Of Monterey; 2 Sons, Scott Suttle Of Smithville, Jamie Suttle Of Livingston; 4 Grandchildren, Samantha Burke, Mishea Suttle, James Santilli, And Abbie Bires; 3 Great Grandchildren, Kaitlyn Burke, Alexander Burke, And Ricky Burke; 2 Brothers, Mark Blystone Of Georgia, John Blystone Of Ohio. Funeral services for Barbara Jean Richmond “Lucy” Price, age 72 of Sparta, will be conducted 1:00pm Saturday from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with burial in Davis Cemetery. Lucy passed away Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at the St. Thomas West Hospital in Nashville. Lucy was born December 20, 1945 in Sparta. She was the former manager of Cato’s and loved to play cards, her favorite game and what she was the best was spades. She is preceded in death by her husband Donald Edward “Donnie” Price; parents, Monroe & Evelyn Richmond Burton and life long friend James “Bar B Que” Shockley. Surviving family members include her son Willis Edward Price; Grandchildren: Heather Strode, James Price, Jordan Price; Brother: Norman Burton; Sisters: Sharon Burton and Melody Burton; Nieces: Brandicah Wright and Kendra Wright; Nephew: William Howard “J.R.” Drake. Memorial services for Mr. Alan Tatum, age 65 of Sparta, will be held at 3:00pm Saturday, March 3, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church. Alan passed away Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Alan Tatum was born on August 27, 1952 in Chicago, Illinois to Bill Tatum and the late Anne Carroll Tatum. Alan was owner of Payless Pharmacy in Sparta, and a man of many accomplishments. He has been the Pharmacist of the Year and Payless Pharmacy has been Pharmacy of the Year in White County for many years. He was recognized as the Innovative Pharmacist of the Year by the Tennessee State Pharmacy Association and he served as President of the Upper Cumberland Pharmacy Association for 14 years. He is a retired adjunct professor at Tennessee Tech University where he taught pharmacology to nursing students. He established the Anne Tatum (named for his mother) Scholarship for White County Nursing students at Tennessee Tech. He lobbied on behalf of White County residents and pharmacy in Washington, DC. His love of the profession and his desire to help people who were sick made him a health care leader. His greatest love was for his family. His three children Jeremy Tatum (Jocelyn) from Huntsville, Alabama, Jennifer Cranford (David) and Tiffany Wagner (Jamie) and his beloved grandchildren Jonathan Cranford, Drake, Gavin, and Lily Tatum, James (JJ) and Jacob Wagner. He considered all of them as his greatest accomplishment. His other borrowed “kids: Mary, Ami, Will, Hannah M, Hannah T., Jason, Chase, Phil, Brian Y., Chad, Tommy, Stephon, Mariah, Michelle, Justin, Katie and many others. He loved them all. His love for Joyce, his wife, was boundless. He leaves behind his father Bill Tatum, brothers Brian (Chicago) and Billy (Martin) and sisters Mary Anne (Cookeville) Audrey and Andrea (Martin) and a host of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 2:00-7:00pm at First United Methodist Church on Friday and on Saturday from 2:00-3:00pm.
Funeral services for Mr. Harold Darwin Rippetoe, age 77, of Cookeville, will be at 1 p.m. on Sunday March 4 at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Crest Lawn Cemetery. Mr. Rippetoe passed away Wednesday February 28, 2018 at his home. He was born April 18, 1940 in Smith County to the late Lawrence Darwin and Lou Ardelia Apple Rippetoe. Mr. Rippetoe attended Rocky Point Baptist Church. He was retired from building construction. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting, and riding ATV’s. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jeffery Harold Rippetoe; two brothers, Bobby and Hubert Rippetoe; two sisters, Betty Lou Bingham and Sue Rushing; four brothers-in-law, Sam, Bud, JT Sparks, and Ernie Pullum. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Pauline Sparks Rippetoe, who he married June 4, 1960 in Cookeville; daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Randy Fly of Cookeville; two grandchildren, Rebecca (Tommy) Phillips of Cookeville, Jennifer (TJ) Miller of Monterey; four great-grandchildren, Bailey and Elijah Phillips, John Parker and Gavin Miller; brother-in-law, Elmer (Angie) Sparks, Ann Sparks, all of New Carlisle, OH, Joyce (Butch) Rogers of Kingston Springs, and Bonnie Pullum of Cookeville; and several nieces and nephews. She was born in Overton County, Tennessee on May 16, 1957 to the late Melissa V. Hammons. She was a housewife. She was also a member of the Aaron’s Chapel Community Church. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, listening to country music, working in the garden, and spending time with her family and her flower garden. She is survived by step-daughters, Carol Sue Decker of Algood; Shelia Hastings of Cookeville; sons, Jason Johnson of Georgia and Ryan Johnson of Hilham; sisters, Patricia Hammons of Livingston; Mary Linda Collins of Hilham; Cindy Day of Cookeville; sister-in-law, Myrtle Allen of Hilham; brother-in-law, Albert Coffman of Livingston; 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; brothers, Willard Hammons of Hardy’s Chapel and Mike Brown of Livingston. Funeral services for Tommy Nelson Thompson, age 77 of Cookeville will be held Sunday, March 4, 2018 at 2 pm in the chapel of Presley Funeral Home. Brother James Nabors and Sister Dana Fouts will officiate. Interment will follow in Cookeville City Cemetery. Mr. Thompson passed away on February 28, 2018 at Overton County Nursing Home in Livingston. He was born July 18, 1940 in Baxter to the late Albert Cordell Thompson and Elise Morgan Thompson. Tommy was a lifelong resident of Cookeville, except for a short tour in New York while enlisted in the United States Air Force. He owned his own business, Gaw and Thompson Meat Processing, along with his beloved wife Wanda and they worked side by side for many years to make it successful. Over the years he gained a great reputation as an honest businessman that cared about his customers like they were a part of his family. Two of Tommy’s passions was his farm and his cattle. He tended to his farm and his herd with enthusiasm and spent every minute he could working the land and taking care of his cattle. Tommy also enjoyed deer hunting and talking about his hunting trips with everyone he could. He loved his family and friends and will be missed by many. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Rose Gaw Thompson; and a brother, Albert Cordell Thompson II all of Cookeville. Funeral services for Mr. Rheubin Clinton Hargis, age 85 of Livingston, will be held on Sunday, March 4, 2018 at 3 PM from the chapel of the Hall Funeral Home in Livingston with burial to follow in the Speck Cemetery located in the Dry Hollow Community of Overton Co. Mr. Hargis passed away from this life on Thursday morning, March 1, 2018 at the Signature Healthcare in Cookeville. Mr. Rheubin Clinton Hargis was born in Crawford on December 4, 1932 to the late Haskel and Letha (Looper) Hargis. Clinton and his wife run Hargis upholstery for many years. He was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Clinton is survived by 3 Sons: Jerry Hargis, Keith Hargis, David Hargis; 1 Daughter: Sherry Meadows; 8 Grandchildren; 18 Great Grandchildren; 2 Great Great Grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Clinton is preceeded in death by his wife Juanita (Bowman) Hargis. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday evening, March 4, 2018 starting at 5 PM until 9 PM then on Sunday, starting at 9 AM until the time of services.
Memorial services for Mrs. Eleanor Louise Szczechowicz, age 78, of Cookeville, will be held Sunday March 4th at 6:00 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness in Cookeville. Eleanor died Wednesday February 28, 2018 at NHC Healthcare Cookeville. She was born September 4, 1939 in Highland Park, Michigan to the late George and Jessie Roberts. Eleanor was a loving sister, wife and mother. She especially enjoyed time spent with family at the cottage built by her husband on the Muskegon River. She was an associate of Meijer Department Store for 15 years working in the deli department. Having been a lifelong resident of Michigan, she moved to Cookeville where she has resided since 2003. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Robert J. Szczechowicz; and by brother, George Roberts. She is survived by daughters and sons in law, Elizabeth Louise and Thomas William Mack of Rickman and Victoria Christina and Wayne Irvin Bowles; son and daughter in law, Robert Bruce and Deborah Szczechowicz, all of Cookeville; grandchildren, Tiffany Rachel, Brandon Lee Mack, Keelie Alina Mack, Alec Cole Szczechowicz and Austin Reed Szczechowicz; and by great grandchildren, Tiffany Amanda Tilkins, William Michael Tilkens, Colton James Feldman, Mason Blake Feldman and Charles Raymond Tilkins. She was loved by all and will be dearly missed. Family will receive friends immediately following the services.
