Obituaries For Friday, July 27

Mr. John Elmer Crooks, age 79 of Sparta, passed away on Thursday, July 26, 2018, at his residence. Born Wednesday, June 21, 1939 in Carbon Hill, Ohio, he was the son of the late John Crooks and the late Opal Pearson Crooks. He was survived by his wife, Janet Crooks, also of Sparta. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving from 1963 until 1965. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

Sandi Renee Taylor, 47 of Smithville, passed away on Wednesday, July 25, 2018, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was born January 12, 1971 in Nashville. She is survived by her husband, Michael Taylor and her son, Zachary Taylor both of Smithville. The family has chosen cremation. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Funeral services for Wilma Carlene McBride, 79 of Sparta, will be held at 1pm on Saturday, July 28, 2018 in the chapel of Oak Lawn Funeral Home with Dwight Fuqua officiating. Burial will follow in Lost Creek Cemetery. Wilma passed away on Thursday, July 26, 2018, at her home. Born Tuesday, April 25, 1939 in Sparta, she was the daughter of the late Claude Johnson and Gertrude Wallace Johnson. She was a member of Findlay Church of Christ. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert (Bob) McBride; brothers, Kenneth Johnson, Clifford Johnson, Charles Johnson, Albert Johnson, and Alfred Johnson; and sisters, Della Franks and Jo Marie Johnson. She is survived by her daughter, Debbie Greene (Eston) of Sparta; son, Robert A. McBride of Madison; grandson, Brad Greene (Megan) of Sparta; granddaughter, Melanie Banker (Adam) of Sparta; granddaughter, Ashley Greene of Sparta; grandson, Kevin McBride of Madison; grandson, Tyler McBride of Madison; great-grandchildren, Joel, Anna Marie, Alexis, Alex, Addalyn, and Robbie. Several nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors also survive. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 11am until time of the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Findlay Church of Christ Library.

Celebration of Life for Mrs. Karen Sue Hill, 63 of Cookeville, will be held 2:00pm Saturday, July 28, 2018 at Heavenly Host Lutheran Church. Karen passed from this life on Tuesday, July 17, 2018, at her home in Cookeville. Karen was born Sunday, December 26, 1954 in Roswell, New Mexico, she was the daughter of the late Marion and Ann (Orton) Clemons. Karen was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mom, and grandma. Karen is survived by: husband, Jim Hill, sons, Scott Lauer of West Palm Beach, Florida and Eric Lauer of Cookeville, Tennessee, daughters, Sara Murdock of Mohawk , Tennessee and Becky Lauer of Smyrna, Tennessee, 8 grandchildren, sisters, Robin G. Clemons of Cookeville, Tennessee and Jo Reid Nichols of Sebastian, Florida.

Graveside services for Mr. Georgie B. “George” Boles, age 83 of Hilham, will be conducted 11 A.M. on Saturday, July 28, 2018, at Maxwell Chapel Cemetery in Hilham. Mr. Boles passed from this life on Tuesday evening, July 24, 2018, in Mt. Juliet. He was born Clay County on April 10, 1935, to the late Simpson and Eppie Hawkins Boles. He enjoyed working on his cattle farm and whittling. Mr. George B. “Georgie” Boles leaves his granddaughter Ashley Cook of Lebanon; grandson Jason Boles of Clarksville; and brother Rex Boles of McMinnville. In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Lurene Boles; son, Edwin Boles; daughter, Diane Boles; brother Clyde Boles; sisters, Lola Sullivan and Lilian Grossi. The family will welcome friends at time of service.

Memorial services for Mr. Bobby G. Stafford, 66, of Gainesboro, will be held at 11 A.M. on Saturday, July 28, 2018, at the Double Springs Church of Christ in Putnam County. The family has chosen cremation. He passed away on Friday, July 20, 2018, at his residence. He was born March 27, 1952, in Jackson County, to Margaret E. Stafford and the late Eugene Stafford. He was married to Kim Stafford, who survives. He was a forklift driver at Nielsen, and a member of the Free State Church of Christ. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by 1 Brother: Danny Stafford; 1 Step Daughter: Christy Logsdon; and 1 Step Granddaughter: Lydia Logsdon. Survivors include his Wife: Kim Stafford of Gainesboro; 2 Sons: Matt (Amber) Stafford of Cookeville, and Andy (Niki) Stafford of Cookeville; 1 Daughter: Toni Scantland of Cookeville; 14 Grandchildren; 4 Great-Grandchildren; his Mother: Margaret E. Stafford of Gainesboro, TN; and 1 Sister: Brenda Faye Peek of Gainesboro. The family will receive friends on Saturday at the church from 10 A.M. until time of services.

Funeral services for Sammy James Bilyeu, age 53 of Gainesboro, TN will be held on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at 2:00PM from the Chapel of Whitson Funeral Home with Bro. Ron Allen officiating. Burial will follow at Shipley Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be on Saturday from 11:00AM till time of the service at 2:00PM. Lane Patterson, James Blomgren, Mike Rittenberry, Roy Rittenberry, Jay Rittenberry, Shannon Rittenberry, and Roger Rittenberry will serve as pallbearers.

Graveside services for Mrs. Lucille Hyder Dodson, 98 of Sparta, will be conducted 1:00pm Sunday, July 29, 2018 at Oak Lawn Cemetery. Mrs. Dodson passed away Thursday morning July 26, 2018 at Alive Hospice in Murfreesboro. Mrs. Dodson was born June 30, 1920 in Putnam County to the late Albert & Cora West Hyder. She was a former shirt factory worker and a retired florist. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband William Edward “Bill Ed” Dodson; son Merrell Edd Dodson; brother Lewis Hyder; sisters Mertie Bartlett, Mildred Swearingen, Ruby Grissom, Doris Vickers. Surviving family members include her son Meldon Dodson and wife Judy of Doyle. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The family will receive friends Saturday from 5-8:00pm and Sunday after 11:00am at Hunter Funeral Home. Funeral services for Keeble Tucker, 89 of Cookeville will be Sunday, July 29 at 1 PM from the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston Horner Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Crest Lawn Cemetery. Commissioned Pastor Larry Wilmoth will officiate. Mrs. Tucker died Friday morning, July 27, 2018 at NHC of Cookeville. She was born Saturday April 27, 1929 in Montgomery County to the late William “Bill” Calvin and Alice Louvennie Austin Phillips. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Ernest “Pokey” Tucker on October 4, 1999, sisters Tennie Stewart, Beatrice Webb, Dovie Phillips, Alma Jones and Ocia Wallace, brothers Cecil Webb, Haywood Webb, Norman Webb, Nelson Phillips, Calvin Phillips, Albert Phillips, Alvin Phillips and Clifford Phillips. She was a 1947 graduate of Baxter Seminary. She was a retired cashier with the Cookeville Office of Life of Georgia. She was a member of the Double Springs Presbyterian Church since 1947, and also served as the church treasurer. She also was a fifty year plus member of the Cookeville Order of Eastern Star 152. Survivors include daughter Mary Alice Tucker, son Dennis Wayne (Claudine)Tucker, all of Cookeville, grandchildren: Kim (Dan)Hammock and Amy Allen ( James Rice), great-grandchildren: Danielle Hammock, Ethan Mee, Allison Green, Emma Allen and Ava Allen, step-grandchildren Laura Walker and Kyle Hundley, great-great-grandchildren: Wesley Meadows and Harper Hundley, sisters-in-law Linnie Webb and Pamela Phillips. Family will receive friends Saturday from 4 to 8 PM and after 11 AM Sunday at the funeral home.

A memorial service for Rhonda Dennis, age 48 of Sparta, will be held at 6pm on Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at Doyle United Methodist Church with John Murphy officiating. Rhonda passed away on Friday, July 20, 2018, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
