Obituaries For Friday, February 2

Ricky Cook, Age 58, Of Monterey, Passed Away On Thursday, February 1, 2018 At The Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

John Nathan Cooper, age 91 of Sparta, passed away January 31, 2018 at Life Care of Sparta. Mr. Cooper was born October 10, 1927. He is preceded in death by his parents, Nathan Cooper and Mae Cooper; his sister, Finabelle Ledbetter; and his wife, Marion Moorman Cooper. He served in the Navy from 1946 to 1948. After serving in the Navy, he obtained degrees from Tennessee Tech and the University of Tennessee. He taught Agriculture at Putnam County High School before returning to his true love of raising beef cattle on his farm in the Hickory Valley Community of White County. John is survived by his children, Cyndi Murdock of Cookeville, Susan Cooper and Barry Cooper of Sparta, his nephews, Hunter Lee Ledbetter of Sparta and John Ledbetter of FL and the daughters of Marion Cooper – Betty Dodson and Mimi Copeland of Cookeville. John was a member of First Baptist Church of Sparta. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Funeral services for Mr. Charles Ray McDonald, age 78, of Livingston will be conducted 2 p.m., Friday, February 2, 2018 from the chapel of the Livingston Funeral Home. Bro. Ricardo Rodriquez will officiate. Burial will be in the Aarons Chapel Cemetery. The family will welcome friends on Thursday evening from 6 until 9 p.m. at the Livingston Funeral Home. Mr. Charles Ray McDonald passed from this life on Tuesday morning, January 30, 2018 at Livingston Regional Hospital with his loving wife by his side. He was born in Overton County on October 13, 1939 to the late Arthur & Christene Keisling McDonald. Charles worked for many years in Furniture Manufacturing, and he enjoyed going to the the flea market.

Graveside services and interment for James Brown Millis M.D., age 87, of Nashville, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday February 3 at Crest Lawn Cemetery with Bro. Buddy Reeder officiating. Dr. Millis passed away Wednesday January 24, 2018 at The Village at Rockville in Rockville, MD. He was born October 28, 1930 in Baxter, TN to the late Dr. Roscoe Henry Millis and Maymie Effie Brown Millis. Following graduation from Baxter Seminary, Dr. Millis matriculated to Vanderbilt University. He earned his Doctor of Medicine Degree from UT Memphis in 1955. Dr. Millis completed his residency at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville and practiced for many years in Nashville as an obstetrician and gynecologist, delivering over 5000 babies. He was a clinical pioneer in the field of Obstetrical Ultrasound, bringing the first machine to Nashville and training physicians and technicians in its use. Following retirement from active practice, he worked in the social security disability field for a number of years.

Funeral services for Lucille Phipps, age 90 of Cookeville, will be held Saturday, February 3, 2018 beginning at 11:00 AM from the chapel of Crest Lawn Funeral Home with Bro. Ed Malone officiating. Interment will follow in Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery, in Cookeville. Ms. Phipps passed from this life Wednesday, January 31, 2018, at her home in Cookeville. She was born Saturday, January 7, 1928 in Hickman, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Allen and Nora (Couch) King. The most important thing in Lucille’s Life was her family. She and her Husband Floyd attended many years at Eastwood Baptist Church, and she loved her work for the Lord. She had a lifelong dream to be a nurse which she attained at the age of 53, receiving her Associates Degree from Columbia State College. Lucille was a registered nurse before her retirement from Cookeville Regional Medical Center. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday February 3, from 9:00 am until the time of service at 11:00 am. In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to the charity of your choice.

Funeral Services for Evelyn Dudney Nelson, age 90 of Sparta, will be held Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Curtis and Son Funeral Home North Chapel in Sylacauga with Brother Mike Kiser officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 10-11 AM at Curtis and Son North Chapel. Mrs. Nelson is survived by her daughter, Kathy Nelson Dodson and husband Gary of Sparta, TN.; Son, James Richard Nelson and wife Pat of Sylacauga; Sister, Martha Dudney Jones age 106 of Huntsville; Grandchildren, Tony Richard Nelson, Kellye Joann Nelson, Rachel Dodson Hunter and Melissa Dudney Conly; Great Grandchildren, Chase Hunter, Trey Hunter, Collins Hunter, Kaden Smallwood, Connor Smallwood and Rita Fallon.

Funeral services for William Aubrey McGee, Red, age 90 will be held Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 11 am at Willow Ave. Church of Christ with Bro. Clarence DeLoach officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Ararat Cemetery in Liberty, TN. The family will receive friends Saturday 9am until service time at the church. Mr. McGee passed away on January 31, 2018 after a brief illness. He was born on December 20, 1927 in McGee Hollow near Gassaway, Tennessee. He is preceded in death by his parents, Bob McGee and Mary Nokes McGee; his brother, Sam McGee and sister-in-law, Elizabeth Grizzel McGee; and his nephew, Wayne McGee. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Virginia Swafford McGee, his daughter Cecilia Ducey, son-in-law Jim Ducey and his sister Josephine Keith. Also surviving him are numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Growing up in McGee Hollow, Red learned farming with mules from his father, Pappy McGee. The fundamental values of home and family were a gift from his mother, Momma Mary McGee. Red was a member of the Willow Avenue Church of Christ since 1965 and his life was centered on faith in God and love of his family and country. Red’s career was in highway construction. He began his career with the county road department in Cannon County. In highway construction he worked for Brinkley Brothers Construction, Mid-South Pavers and retired after many years with Rogers Group of Nashville. As Construction Superintendent, Red was beloved and respected by his crew members who were motivated to strive to excellence by his leadership, example and work ethic. From his home in Cookeville, Tennessee Red could drive in any direction and cite ownership of his jobs that built excellent roads and highways, dams and bridges in Tennessee, Alabama and Kentucky. In retirement Red worked for Clarence Gaw of Gaw’s Auto Mart where he enjoyed working with the crew and delivering autos.

Funeral Services For Sierra Marie Toney, Age 27, Of Crossville, Tennessee, And Formerly Of Hanging Limb, Tennessee, Will Be Conducted On Saturday, February 3, 2018, At 11:00 AM From The Chapel Of Goff Funeral Home. Rev. Richard Rollins And Pastor Harold Scroggins Will Officiate With Interment To Follow In The Hanging Limb Cemetery. Mrs. Toney Was Born On December 26, 1990, In Savannah, Georgia, To Michael Cook Of Panama City, Florida, And The Late Tonya Greathouse Smith. Mrs. Toney Passed Away On Friday, January 26, 2018, At Her Home. Mrs. Toney Was A Care Giver In The Health Care Field And Recently Worked With The Cumberland County High School In Crossville, Tennessee. She Was A Member Of The Bloodbought Ministries In Panama City, Florida. She Is Survived By, Her Husband, Dartanion Toney Of Crossville, TN; 2 Sons, Damien And Elijah Toney Of Crossville, TN; Stepfather, Lannie Smith Of Livingston, TN; Sister, Adrianna (Raymond) Hall Of Panama City, FL; And Brother, Michael James Cook Of Panama City, FL. The Family Will Receive Friends At Goff Funeral Home On Saturday, February 3, 2018, From 9:00 AM Until Time Of Services At 11:00 AM.

Funeral services for Mrs. Zelma Mae Phillips 86, of Gainesboro, TN, will be held at 1 P.M. on Saturday, February 3, 2018, at Anderson – Upper Cumberland Funeral Home in Gainesboro, TN. Burial will follow in the Old Antioch Cemetery in the Old Antioch community of Jackson County, TN. Zelma was born May 18, 1931, to the late George and Maggie Waddell Scantland. On July 18, 1948 she was married to the late William Odell “Boots” Phillips, who passed away on April 27, 1985. Zelma was a homemaker and a member of the Burristown Church of Christ.She is survived by 1 Daughter: Cathy Phillips of Gainesboro, TN; 2 Grandsons: Scottie Pennington of Gainesboro, TN and Jamie (Jennifer) Pennington of Springfield, TN; 4 Great-Grandchildren: Corey Pennington, Reese, Katie, and Allye Pennington; 2 Great-Great-Grandchildren and 1 Brother: Bobby Scantland of Warren, Michigan. The family will receive friends on Friday from 2 P.M. – 8 P.M., and on Saturday from 10 A.M. until time of services.

Funeral service for Johnny Ray Mahan, age 59 of Cookeville, will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 3, 2018 from the chapel of Crest Lawn Funeral Home with Bro. Johnny Fox and Bro. Christian Lomax officiating. Interment will follow in the Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. Mr. Mahan passed away on Wednesday, January 31, 2018, at his home. Johnny was born Friday, October 3, 1958 in Cookeville, Tennessee, he was the son of Oleen Rendy (Montgomery) and Clarence “C.G.” Mahan. Johnny worked as a cook for a number of years in several restaurants in the area. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Friday, February 2, 2018 and again Saturday, February 3, 2018 from 12:00 pm until time of services.

Funeral services for Brenda Elizabeth Stein, 59 of Madison, formerly of Sparta, will be held at 2pm on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Oak Lawn Funeral Home with Jeremy Allen and Tim Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Frasier’s Chapel Cemetery. Family will receive friends after from 4pm until 8pm on Friday, February 2, 2018 at the funeral home. Born Monday, December 1, 1958 in Sparta, Tennessee, she was the daughter of James and Bobbie Sue Guy Wallace. Brenda was a member of Landmark Pentecostal Church in Lebanon, Tennessee.

Celebration of Life for Charles “Chuck” Calvin Bos, age 77, of Cookeville, will be held this Saturday, February 3 from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm, at The Unity Church of the Cumberland’s, 823 E. 10th St, Cookeville. Chuck was born in Holland, Michigan. For all those who knew him, Chuck was a kind, loving and giving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. He touched so many lives with his warm smile, open heart, helpful hands and loving heart. Charles was one of many Shriner’s who drove children to the Shriners Burn hospital in Cincinnati. Charles is survived by his loving wife, Sandra Bos of 59 years. He and Sandra had six children, Douglas Bos, Thomas Bos, Charles Bos Jr., Christine Bos Corbett, David Bos and James Bos. In Lieu of flowers, donations made to the Shriners Children’s Hospital would be appreciated.

Mrs. Bessie Jane Roberts, age 85 of Sparta, passed away on Friday, February 2, 2018 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00pm Sunday, February 4, 2018 from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with burial in Roberts Cemetery.  The family will receive friends Saturday from 4-8:00pm at Hunter Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Mr. Gary Wayne Looper, age 55, of Livingston will be conducted 11 a.m., Sunday, February 4, 2018, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Hunter Cove Cemetery. The family will welcome friends on Saturday from 12 noon until 9 p.m., then on Sunday from 10 a.m. until time of services. Mr. Gary Wayne Looper passed from this life on Thursday evening, February 1, 2018, in the comfort of his home in Livingston. Gary was born in Santa Monica California on May 14, 1962 to Nelda Sue Harris Looper and the late Kermit Conrad Looper. He was a mechanic by trade and enjoyed working on vehicles. Gary loved being with his family and teaching them everything he could. He also enjoyed looking for Indian Artifacts. He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Mrs. Rita Faye Roark Looper of Livingston, TN; sons, Casey Looper & wife Ashli of Westmoreland, TN & Tyler Looper of Cleveland, TN; daughter, Megan Daniel Looper of Livingston, TN; mother, Sue Looper of Livingston, TN; sisters, Felcia Mitchell & Carol Moore; grandchildren, Whaylon Looper, Ashtin Looper, Aeden Looper, Kyler Looper, Madison Looper, Emily Looper & Aubrey Looper.

Graveside services for Mr. Jack Donald Davis, age 87, of Knoxville and formerly of Allons, TN, will be conducted 1 p.m., Monday, February 5, 2018 from the Overton County Memorial Gardens. Mr. Davis peacefully passed away on Wednesday, January 31, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Davis was born on February 13, 1930 in Allons, TN, to the late Chester and Lora Kerr Davis. He was a longtime member of Arlington Church of Christ and retired in 1984 from Flowers Baking Company. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years Rosaline Ferril Davis, sons Don Davis, wife Vicki and Ken Davis, wife Deborah, grandchildren Jonathan Davis, Sarah Chapman, Jeremy and Seth Davis, 7 great-grandchildren Jackson, Bailey, Isabel, Emma, Charlie, Olivia and Ava, sister Jean Arms Watson, nephews Jack, Larry and David Arms, extended church family and dear friends. The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 4th, 2018 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Mynatt Funeral Home, Fountain City Chapel, 2829 Rennoc Road, Knoxville, TN 37918, with funeral service to follow at 3:00 p.m.

Funeral Services for Mr. Carl Stewart , Age 90, Of Taylor, MI., formerly of Cookeville, will be held Tuesday, 2-6-2018 at 11a.m. in the Chapel of Dyer Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Monday 5 pm-8 pm and Tuesday 10 am-11 am. Mr. Stewart died Wednesday January 28 at Beaumont Dearborn Hospital.
