James “Rick” Walker, 59 of Gainesboro, passed away Thursday, April 5, 2018 at his home. No services are planned.
Funeral Services for Isaac Shepherd Mattson, 1 of Cookeville, will be held 5:00 PM on Friday, April 6, 2018 from the chapel of Crest Lawn Funeral Home with the Evangelist Rodney Pitts officiating. Isaac went to be with Jesus on Monday April 2, 2018. Isaac was born Tuesday, September 6, 2016 in Cookeville, Tennessee, he was the son of Arthur “Art” and Jennifer (Haley) Mattson. The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Friday, April 6, 2018, at Crest Lawn Funeral Home.
Funeral services for Mr. Joel Keith Brown, 78, of Gainesboro, will be held at 1 P.M. on Saturday, April 7, 2018, at Anderson – Upper Cumberland Funeral Home in Gainesboro. Burial will follow in the Maxwell Chapel Cemetery in Hilham. The family will receive friends on Friday from 3 P.M. – 8 P.M., and Saturday from 10 A.M. until time of services. He passed away on Tuesday, April 3, 2018, at St. Thomas West Hospital in Nashville. He was born November 25, 1939, in Hilham, to the late John K. Brown and Lona D. Brown. He was a construction worker. He loved gardening, enjoyed building things, and hard work. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 4 Brothers: Charles, Roger, Tom, and Melvin Brown; and 1 Sister: Wanda Joyce Ward. Survivors include 2 Sons: Greg K. Brown of Hilham, and Jeramy (Brown) Armonte of Cookeville; 1 Daughter: Tracey Brown of Cookeville; 5 Grandchildren; 1 Great Grandchild; 4 Brothers: William Merle Brown, Edward Brown, Carl Brown, and Jr. Brown; and 4 Sisters: Corrine Albertson, Lois Dial, Doris Ramos, and Kathy Cantrell.
Funeral services for Mary Ellen Allen, age 102, of Algood will be held Sunday, April 8th, 2018 at 2:00 pm in the chapel of Presley Funeral Home with Pastor Dave Shelley officiating. Interment will follow in Boiling Springs Cemetery. Mary Ellen Allen passed away Thursday, April 5, 2018 at her home in Algood. Mary Ellen Allen was born Wednesday, August 25, 1915 in New Castle, Pennsylvania to the late Lucian Shover and Mable Marie Kirker Shover. Mrs. Allen retired as a LPN from Golden Hills Nursing Home, Kenosha, Wisconsin. She served as a volunteer in Sparta, Tennessee for several years. She loved her Lord, family, and church family at Boiling Springs Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, Mary Ellen Allen was preceded in death by: her first husband, John Wilson Kegarise; second husband, Paul Don Allen; three sisters, Evelyn Grodicur, Annie McClaffery, and Peggy Hilleshiem. She is survived by: son, John Leroy Kegarise; grandchildren, Sue (Scott) Yielding, Brad (Jena) Kegarise, and Jackie (Mike) Huber; great-grandchildren, Nicholas Yielding, Patrick Yielding, Britta Kegarise, TJ Kegarise, and Ava Huber. The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 7, 2018, 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM and Sunday, April 8, 2018, 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM at Presley Funeral Home.

Miss Matthews age 75 of Cookeville passed away on Thursday evening, April 5, 2018 at the Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Miss Matthews was born in Rickman on Tuesday, June 23, 1942 to the late Robert E Lee and Leta (Bilbrey) Matthews. Survivors include: 3 Brothers: Horace (Lena) Matthews of Cookeville, Earl (Mary) Matthews of Livingston and Hoyt (Louise) Matthews of Rickman; 1 Sister: Pauline (Clarence) Spicer of Cookeville, 2 Sister-in-Laws: Gerene Matthews of Rickman and Brenda Matthews of Cookeville and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. In addition to her parents, Miss Matthews was preceded in death by 2 Brothers: Robert Ray Matthews and Claude Matthews; 1 Sister and Brother-in-Law: Florence Anna (Delmon) Hall and nephew: Ronnie Matthews. Funeral services for Rev. Ralph Wendell Tucker, 85 of Sparta, will be held at 2pm on Sunday, April 8, 2018 at Oak Lawn Funeral Home with Rev. Lloyd Locklear, Rev. Freddy Copeland, Rev. David Bratcher officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Lawn Memorial Cemetery. He passed away on Thursday, April 5, 2018, at his residence. Born Thursday, February 9, 1933 in Decatur, Alabama, he was the son of the late Allie Tucker and the late Lilly Brooks Tucker. Rev. Tucker served as Minister in the Freewill Baptist Church for over 60 years. He was also a Veteran of The United States Army. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Norma Selby Tucker of Sparta; Son, Phillip Tucker of Sparta; Son, Stephen D. Tucker (Elizabeth) of Huntsville, AL; Grandson, Cody Tucker of Huntsville, AL; Sister, Louise Thomas of Lacey Springs, AL; Sister, Jean Delong of Huntsville, AL; Sister, Dimple Benningfield of Madison, AL; Special Niece, Pauline Abercrombie, and Cousin, Herman Brooks. Many special friends and neighbors also survive. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, A.B, John, Glenn, and J.W. Tucker, and a sister, Goldie Lipscomb. Family will receive friends from 5pm until 7pm on Saturday, April 7 at the funeral home.

Burial will follow in the John L. Clark Memorial Cemetery in the Stone community. She passed away on Tuesday, April 3, 2018, at Woodcrest at the Blakeford in Nashville. She was born July 23, 1931, in Gainesboro, to the late Charlie and Mary Nell Hix. She was married to the late Charles Ellis and Dr. John Paul Bremer. She was a homemaker, and a member of the Church of Christ. She enjoyed sewing and bowling. She loved children. In addition to her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by 1 Son: Larry Richard Ellis; and 3 Brothers: Eugene, Joe, and Charles Hix. Survivors include 1 Daughter: Teresa (Warren) Tardy of Brentwood; 1 Granddaughter: Elizabeth Tardy of Franklin; 1 Great – Grandson: Hayden Grogan of Franklin; 2 Sisters: Ann Thompson of Gainesboro and Elizabeth Hooten of Nashville; and 1 Brother-in-law: Bobby (June) Ellis of Hendersonville.
