Sparta’s Bluegrass on the Square concert series has been cancelled for the remainder of the season.
Performances happen every third Friday from May until October. Organizer Angie Wilhite said the decision was made to protect the community from rising COVID numbers.
“I’m sad to have to do this, but I feel for the safety of our people and our community,” Wilhite said. “Not only our county, we have people from surrounding counties and all across the state that come to this.”
Wilhite said the city intends to bring back the bluegrass performances in 2022. Wilhite said the decision does not affect the Lester Flatt Celebration on October 9th.
“It was going really well,” Wilhite said. “We had great crowds, and I appreciate so much all the people who have been coming and supporting the bluegrass series.”
A similar decision was made for the 2020 season with concerts stopping mid-season.
