Registration Underway For Putnam County Baseball And Softball

The baseball and softball season returns with the Putnam County Youth Baseball and Softball League open for registration.

Sign-ups are accepted until March 18th. President Dustin Allen said anyone from the ages four to 18 can play.

“This year we’re also having softball,” Allen said. “Cane Creek will offer ages 4-8 for the coach pitch and tee-ball division. Then over at Parkview and Jere Whitson we’ll have rookie league which is 9-10, a minor league which is 11-12 and then our senior league which is ages 13-18.”

Allen said while it may be under one league, the players are divided based on location among Baxter, Cookeville and Monterey. Allen said teams will play each other in season and travel to different fields across the county. Allen said being a part of one of those teams brings many benefits to a child.

“It gives the kids an opportunity to do something,” Allen said. “They’re not stuck at home playing video games. They are actually outside playing with their friends and socializing.”

Allen said those that register can be a part of a growing league of players. Allen said participation has grown to new highs over the last couple of seasons. Allen said a registration fee applies for each player but help is available.

“Anyone who can’t afford to play, if they just reach out to us privately through Facebook or email or even call or text me,” Allen said. “We have scholarships set up for anyone who needs help.”

You can register by visiting www.pcyouthbaseball.com. After registration expires, tryouts will follow shortly after with the season beginning in April.
