The American Red Cross of East Tennessee looks to add more volunteers in Fentress and Cumberland Counties.
Executive Director Sharon Hudson says volunteers are especially needed in small communities and rural areas like Fentress County in the case of an emergency.
“We already have shelter agreements with all 13 counties we service here in East Tennessee,” Hudson says. “Once [volunteers] sign up and go through our process online, we like to sit down with each volunteer and find the best spot for them. We are very blessed to have some of the best volunteers.”
Hudson says volunteers are especially needed this time of year to help provide resources as the risk of house fires increase during the holiday season.
“That’s how we respond is by making sure that they are ready for recovery,” Hudson says. “Some people, unfortunately, are a home fire away from poverty, and we want to make sure we respond and help them recover.”
Hudson encourages those interested in volunteering with the Red Cross to visit their website for more information.
