Reagan: CDBGs Needed By Rural Communities

Clay County Mayor Dale Reagan said Community Development Block Grants are needed by rural communities.

Without the Community Development Block Grant Program, it would be difficult for rural counties with limited money to do projects to benefit the public, Reagan said.

“There’s just no way that we can come up with that type of money, just to do stuff like that without it taking us awhile to get to that point,” Reagan said.

He pointed to Clay County’s most recent grant, which purchased a new ambulance and a variety of emergency equipment.

CDBGs are  managed by the Department of Housing and Urban Development. The Trump administration has proposed cutting the grants.
