Rains Foundation Hosting Golf Fundraiser

The Rains Foundation hosting its annual golf tournament fundraiser Saturday at Golden Eagle Golf Club.

The Rains Foundation formed in 2004 by Steve Rains as a way to honor his late father, Lyndon Rains, and to give back to deserving students. This will be the 19th year the foundation has put on the tournament. Foundation Chairman Wayne Cravens said the event is always popular.

“We’ve typically had, effectively sell outs every year,” Cravens said. “Somewhere in the neighborhood of two rounds with 23 to 25 teams for each flight, morning and afternoon. It’s been our primary mechanism for raising funds for the foundation.”

The Rains Foundation supports local high school students with scholarships to Tennessee Tech. In the 20 years since its inception, The Rains Foundation has given out close to $350,000 in scholarships to students in the Upper Cumberland.

“We don’t take ourselves too seriously. We’re not the most serious golf tournament around,” Cravens said. “We’re a fundraising event for a good cause. So, we really try to encourage people to do good while having fun.”

Cravens is so confident in his Fundraiser that he jokingly said that if it’s not the most fun golf tournament you’ve played in, they’ll refund your money.

“I hope people don’t take me up on that across the board,” Cravens said. “But we seriously, I think if someone gives it a chance they’ll have an enjoyable time. And that’s really due to the attitude and effort of all the volunteers.”
