Rain Won’t Dampen Putnam County Fair

The Putnam County Fair continues, even if the weather isn’t always cooperating.

Fair Board President John Allen said the weather isn’t keeping people away.

“Right now our numbers are ahead of last year, we had a bumper-crop night on Saturday night, largest gate in 8 years and we’re trying to figure out how eight years ago they got more people in here than we’ve got now,” Allen said.

Even the downpour Sunday night didn’t dim the crowds, he said. Most people were already in the grandstands for the demolition derby before the rain began.

Now, crews are working on getting the parking lots and grounds ready for the end of the week.

“We’re doing pretty good, they’re putting out fresh gravel in several places in the parking lots today and we’re hoping for a hot day to dry out some of this, we have a big mud pile in the middle of the arena, but we have skilled people with all kinds of machines that are going to move that around,” Allen said.

The Putnam County Fair is open each night until Saturday.
