The completion date for repairing the Highway 111 railroad crossing in White County might be pushed back to April.
County Executive Denny Wayne Robinson said the weather might keep the project from being completed on time.
“We have been shooting to try to get this done by the end of the year. Our issue now is weather and time and getting asphalt laid,” Robinson said. “You’ve got to have a certain temperature before you can lay asphalt and if we can’t get that done by the end of the year, it probably will end up being done after the first of 2019.”
The Tri-County Railroad Authority received a $200,000 grant to repair the 120-foot railroad crossing earlier this year. The work includes shoulders, four traffic lanes, an acceleration lane, and median.
Robinson said Highway 111 will eventually be shut down once the asphalt work begins.
“We had a meeting with TDOT reps this week and got the traffic flow finalized for when that happens,” Robinson said.
Robinson said the railroad authority began pushing for the project to take place after receiving complaints about the area for several years.
“The crossing was getting rough and we were starting to have some damage to the vehicles,” Robinson said. “That is a major thoroughfare with the truck traffic coming in and out of there. This was just an obstacle in the path of making White County better.”
Robinson said a delay would push the completion date back to April at the latest.
