Rail Trail Authority Member Wants To Create Friends Group To Lobby For Expansion

The Baxter Friends of the Depot wants the Central Rail Trail to connect to its community.

The group met with the Rail Trail Authority to discuss options to make the project happen. Members Charles Womack said the possibility of creating its own rail trail friends group could possibly help with the expansion.

“It’s more of a hypothetical, but my goal is to get a friends group started that encompasses Monterey, Putnam County, Algood, Cookeville, Baxter to get an organization raising funds and help the authority,” Womack said.

Womack said he envisions the group lobbying with local municipalities to expand the trail. Womack said based on the community feedback, there is a want to expand the trail east as well west towards Monterey.
