Putnam’s August Sales Tax Numbers Slow Down Compared To Previous Months

Sales tax numbers rose in August across Putnam County, but the increase slowed from the previous two months.

August sales tax figures released Wednesday showed an overall increase of 7.3 percent compared to the same month in 2021. Collections amounted to $4.6 million. That’s down from a 15.1 percent increase in sales tax revenue for June.

Putnam County saw the largest increase with 24.1 percent. Monterey’s sales tax collection went up 15 percent. Algood saw a decrease of 8.4 percent. Cookeville saw a small increase of 6.4 percent and Baxter with 4.9 percent.

So far through the first four months of the fiscal year, the county averages a 11.2 percent growth per month compared to 2021.
