Putnam Veterans Parade Friday, Sparta Hosting Program Saturday

Several Veterans Day events in the Upper Cumberland celebrating those who have served.

In Putnam County Friday, the Veterans Day Parade will begin with a ceremony in the county commission chambers at 10:45 a.m. The parade will follow shortly after starting at the county courthouse. It will then travel to North Washington Avenue along Broad Street to the Cookeville Depot.

Mayor Randy Porter said the parade will happen as long as the expected inclement weather is not severe.

In Van Buren County, the American Legion Post 207 is offering lunch with a veteran Friday. The meal will start at 1:00 p.m. at the American Legion office on Spring Street in Spencer.

The Livingston and Overton County Veterans Day program has been moved to the Joe L. Evins Community Center due to the weather forecast. The event starts at 10:00 a.m. Friday.

Sparta will host its Veterans Day Parade on Saturday. It begins at the White County High School at 10:00 a.m. and proceeds to Metcalf Park next to American Legion Building on Liberty Square. Following the parade, a program, free lunch and concert will be held.

If you want to walk or run in honor of a veteran in Clay County, then report to the Red Boiling Springs Church of Christ Saturday. Registration for the 5k begins at 7:00 a.m. Saturday. Breakfast will be served at the community center following the run.
