Putnam Tops 1K Active COVID Cases

Putnam County became the 17th county in the state with more than 1,000 active COVID cases Sunday.

The county topped 1,000 for the first time in the pandemic with 1,087 cases. State Department of Health data shows 870 new cases since last Sunday.

State Health Commissioner Dr. Lisa Piercey said Sunday that there is currently not a backlog of cases, meaning the numbers since Thursday reflect the normal 4-6 day lag time from the patient taking the test. Earlier last week, Piercey said the system was experiencing delays due to the large number of tests being conducted.

With the weekend numbers, Putnam County’s two-day positivity rate stands at 26 percent.

Warren County reported 964 cases Sunday with Cumberland County at 730. Other Upper Cumberland active case numbers include:

  • White – 371
  • Dekalb – 337
  • Fentress – 281
  • Smith – 278
  • Overton – 269
  • Clay – 133
  • Jackson – 88
  • Van Buren – 74
  • Pickett – 60

Piercey said 374 hospital beds in the Upper Cumberland are being used right now with 100 of them housing COVID patients. 46 percent of the intensive care beds across the Upper Cumberland region are currently being used for COVID patients.
