Putnam County owned tennis courts are receiving upgrades to its lighting with new LED bulbs.
The Cookeville, Baxter and Monterey court lights will all be replaced. Parks and Recreation Director John Ross Albertson said the county budgeted the $30,000 price tag with last year’s capitol projects.
“We are going to be able to hopefully complete all of those within the next week or two weeks,” Albertson said. “Of course, that will save the county significant money, not just in electricity cost, but also, save us in maintenance costs.”
The Monterey courts faced electrical wiring problems while replacing the bulbs, but Albertson said the fix was quick and simple. Albertson said the switch makes sense with LED lights trending among municipalities across Putnam.
“It is not just even a trend in the Upper Cumberland,” Albertson said. “I think it is really kind of nation wide. Of course, you saw the school system that had a LED grant last year or year before to go through and replace all their lighting inside the schools to LED lights.”
Putnam County buildings also use LED lights thanks to a similar grant.
