Putnam Student Arrested For Online Threat

A student apprehended in Putnam County for the social media threat of a shooting at Cookeville High School.

The Sheriff’s Department said a student at Monterey High School brought the threat to school resource officers and the principal. The threat told other students not to come to school because a shooting was set for Cookeville High.

SRO deputies immediately took the suspect into custody and he is now being detained in the Putnam County Jail. After the Sheriff’s Department spoke with the District Attorney’s Office the student was charged with threatening mass violence on a school property.

Cookeville High School was not placed on a lockdown during the incident.
