Putnam Sports Complex Expansion On Pace For Fall Completion

The expansion of Putnam County’s Sports Complex is about 90 percent completed.

That is according to Putnam County Parks and Recreation Director John Ross Albertson. Albertson said the two new fields and access road should be complete in about two months.

“There actually working on the concrete for the sidewalks today, and then, it will be seeding, and we will come in and do our part of sodding the field and irrigating those fields,” Albertson said. “We’ll be doing all of that hopefully in the next weeks.”

Albertson said Rogers Group will also begin paving the new entrance on North Washington during that time. Albertson said the two new fields will be ready for league play next spring.

“We were actually out there this weekend,” Albertson said. “We had the Rotary Soccer Tournament, the fall tournament. We had 67 teams out there this past weekend. We worked around those fields. I was in a lift this past week working on some lights, and it is looking really good. It’s real exciting to be able to see those two fields come to fruition.”

Albertson said he has been pleased with the timeline of work despite the two year delay. Putnam County was first awarded the TDEC grant funding the project in 2018.

“We had some delays working through the process with TDEC early on working through more of the paperwork side of the grant and all the red tape,” Albertson said. “Since we’ve been able to award the grant, I have been quite please with the progress.”

Albertson said the completion comes at a good time with the fall being the best time to grow the field.
