Putnam Schools Working Hard To Ensure Safe Roll Out Of School Buses

Putnam County Schools working hard to make sure your child’s bus is ready to go this week.

Transportation Supervisor Kim Bradford said the district’s mechanics have been examining the 79-bus fleet all summer long.

“When school gets out they do these buses one at a time, and they check them from head to toe,” Bradford said. “Every working part. Every bolt. Every screw. Every mechanical issue that could go wrong.”

Bradford said up to 80 kids can be on a single bus and getting those kids safe to school is the number one goal. Bradford said each bus is reevaluated every 60 days with a check list to ensure safety.

“We have a check off sheet called a M-90,” Bradford said. “Every 60 days, the buses are brought in year round and mechanics go through them with a fine-tooth comb.”

Bradford said buses will roll out as early as 5:30 a.m. to cover some 50 routes across the county. Bradford said each morning, a bus driver will do an inspection before driving.
