Putnam County school administrators are keeping their options open regarding next month’s eclipse.
School systems around the Nashville area have already cancelled school for August 21.
Putnam County Director of Schools Jerry Boyd said while it’s tourist and cultural event, it’s also an educational event.
“There’s all kinds of options, what would be best for the school system, the community, our students, our employees, mainly so everyone can take advantage and enjoy this event,” Boyd said.
With an unknown number of tourists coming to the Upper Cumberland, Boyd said he’s not sure what the best course of action is.
If cancellation is best, Boyd said he’ll ask the board of education to approve it.
Boyd said he hopes to have a plan in place by the next county board of education meeting August 3.
