Putnam Schools Upgrading HVAC Control System At CHS

New electronics being installed over the summer at Cookeville High School that would better control HVAC units.

Deputy Director of Schools Tim Martin said the new system would control temperatures school-wide instead of a per-classroom basis.

“Hopefully, it will make us a lot more energy efficient,” Martin said. “We think it will save us a lot of electricity. We don’t know how much, but we think we will see a saving on that. We think we’ll also have a lot better air quality.”

Martin said the original electronics were installed in 1996. Martin said since then, several units were replaced which caused compatibility issues.

Martin said the school system wants to standardized the climate management system district-wide. Martin said Cookeville High School joins a list of several schools that use the system.

“It allows us to centralize control,” Martin said. “It allows our maintenance department to be able to log in and look at the system remotely and see what is going on and make sure we are heating and cooling in an efficient matter.”

Martin said the work should be completed by the start of the school year.
