Putnam County School System has opened its new transfer student portal.
Attendance and Enrollment Management Supervisor Chris Pierce said that the portal will allow for priority 4 students in grades 1 through 4 to attempt a transfer to a school outside their zone.
“Every now and then you’ll have a situation where a family’s work will change, a babysitter’s location will change, different reasons for why it may be a little more convenient for a family to try and relocate their student,” Pierce said.
Pierce said families wishing to participate should contact the new school to place the request on a list. He said that if the number of requests exceeds open seats in a grade at a particular school, a drawing will be held to assign students.
Pierce said that any students not drawn will remain at their previously enrolled school. He said that all families will be notified of any lottery results no later than June 3rd.
“We have a chart posted with the process listed,” Pierce said. “Families can look at that on that chart to see available numbers of seats within in a particular grade at a particular grade.”
Pierce said that according to state guidelines, every school system has to offer a process to transfer. He said that Putnam Schools’ transfer portal will be open until Wednesday, May 25th at 3 p.m.
