Putnam Schools Expect Good Year Ahead After First Week Back

Putnam County Schools had their first full day back on Tuesday, and officials say it looks like it will be a good school year.

Deputy Director Tim Martin said that the main issue facing schools is long car lines from the influx of students.

“Not just newly registered but everybody being back,” Martin said. “All of us kind of got used to last year. We had a couple thousand kids who were at home online and now are back at the schools and they’re in the car line.”

Martin said the school asks for patience as they navigate the car lines, and that they expect the lines to thin out after the first week or so.

Martin said they faced one other minor issue with a school bus routing software, but the issue has already been resolved. He said that parents, students, and faculty have all expressed excitement at returning to school in person.

“We do have some dedicated online teachers this year,” Martin said. “But we don’t have anybody who has to teach in-person and teach online at the same time, so everybody’s excited about that.”

Martin said that schools typically see late registrants up until Labor Day, after which he said tends to level off.
