Putnam Schools Closing At 1pm Tuesday

Putnam County Schools will close at 1:00pm Tuesday in anticipation of possible severe weather.

Communications and Marketing Supervisor Buddy Pearson said the decision was made after a briefing from the National Weather Service indicated a moderate risk of severe storms Tuesday afternoon.

“It looks like that there’s going to be some pop-up storms around three or four o’clock, but not a significant line,” Pearson said. “The bad stuff’s going to come in a little bit later on. But, just to be make sure that everybody gets home safe, that everybody is – all the buses, all the students are dropped off.”

Pearson said Director Corby King also consulted the county’s EMS officials before making the decision. Pearson said the change in schedule will not have any other effects on students or staff.

“We feel like dismissing at one o’clock allows for the buses to run, students to be dropped off, for teachers and staff to be able to get home safely for when the potential severe stuff hits Putnam County,” Pearson said.
