Putnam County Schools will be closed Monday and Tuesday due to a variety of seasonal illnesses affecting students, teachers, and support staff.
Interim Director of Schools Corby King said the system-wide absenteeism rate jumped to 8.5-percent on Friday.
King said five schools reported absenteeism rates over 10-percent and three over 9-percent. 5-percent of teachers and support staff were absent on Friday.
“We hope that everyone will take this opportunity to remain at home, rest, and recuperate,” A Putnam County Schools Facebook post said. “We look forward to returning to school healthy and ready to learn next Wednesday.”
District offices will remain open throughout next week. School age care will not be provided on Monday and Tuesday.
Officials said TSSAA related high school athletic contests may continue at the discretion of the principals and athletic directors. All other school-related activities will be canceled on Monday and Tuesday.
