The Putnam County Board of Education’s efforts to better control school capacity has produced results.
Attendance Supervisor Chris Pierce said Prescott South Elementary is the only elementary school with capacity over 90 percent. Pierce said elementary schools are averaging 84 percent capacity.
“I think we’ve been doing this a while and we’ve had at least a half a dozen schools at times that were way over 90 (percent),” Pierce said. “Right now we only have one that would be over 90 percent.”
Pierce said the system will continue monitoring school’s capacity numbers as enrollment always continues. He said enrollment grows until December before it eventually slows down.
“Overall those numbers look really good,” Pierce said. “And are spread out a lot more evenly than in years past, as of now.”
Pierce said Prescott South Elementary School is currently at 93.5 percent capacity. Pierce said that all schools are currently under the mandated student to teacher ratio.
