The Putnam County School Board voted unanimously Thursday night to reject the brick on the new Park View facility.
Roughly five to ten percent of the brick has already been laid. All of that brick is on the back side of the school. Upland Design Group’s Kim Chamberlin said the brick came from the supplier with a variance of color, from salmon to pink to yellow.
“I’ve never seen anything quite like it,” Chamberlin said.
Chamberlin said the change will delay the completion of brick work, as the entire brick industry has been hit with delays. For example, the Upperman High School expansion may not be delivered to the system until after Christmas break because of delays getting brick for that project. Chamberlin said he was not prepared to say Park View would not be ready on time as crews can work on other aspects of the project.
The brick already in place will be removed.
The board had two options, reject the brick or stain it. Director of Schools Corby King said during a Wednesday work session the decision would likely be impacted by the problems the system continues to have with Monterey High School, where brick colors do not match.
