Some roads on the northern side of Putnam County are being repaired Monday after suffering flood damage over the weekend.
Road Supervisor Randy Jones said crews are currently repairing asphalt on the Cumby Road Bridge.
“There’s a bridge down there that the water got over, and it buckled asphalt on top of the bridge so we’re digging that off,” Jones said. “We’ll have to put crushed rock on top of it until we can go back and pave on it. We’re making a temporary patch.”
Jones said the department is also working on a washed out culvert at Knight’s Chapel Freewill Church on Shipley Road. Jones said overall, roadways did not receive long-term damages.
“We have a 10 foot tile that we installed here probably three years ago or something like that,” Jones said. “The water was probably three or four foot over the pipe at the time.”
Jones said repairs should be completed by the end of the week. Jones said besides small inconveniences, drivers should not be affected.
“The trouble is having to come back to the same places,” Jones said. “There is just so much drainage and run off that when it does rain in a short period of time, there is nothing that you can do.”
