Putnam Purchases 1625 Chromebooks For High Schools

The Putnam County School Board approved the purchase of 1,625 Chromebooks Thursday night completing the next phase of one device to one student.

When the devices arrive, each high school student in the system with have an electronic device. Director of Schools Corby King said the system already has one device for each middle school student.

King said the biggest question now: when will the devices arrive?

“We don’t have a timeline now, it will not be quick,” King said. “We know that there’s been a long delay just from the manufacturing company. We have been running three to four months behind the order. So it is not likely we will get these before the end of this school year, but we’ll have them in place before next year.”

The $414,375 purchase will be paid for Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund, money set aside from the CARES Act. The schools also approved the purchase of 64 Chromebook Carts and licenses. King said the purchase completes the system’s ESSER funds allocation.

“Our elementary schools grades three and four are pretty close to 1 to 1, and we’ve got a large number of devices in our K-2,” King said.
