Putnam Planning Commission could be making changes to its subdivision regulations.
Director Kevin Rush presented the idea of requiring traffic studies for certain developments moving forward. He said they would like to have a certified engineer performs the traffic study to ensure the study is sound.
“That takes us out of the guessing game of whether that development will work or not,” Rush said. “They’ve had a study done that shows it does, or what’s required to be done to make it work.”
Rush said while a traffic study can be expensive, it is a necessary step for some subdivisions before approval. He said the study can sometimes cost thousands of dollars.
Rush said there is no uniform standard for traffic studies for subdivisions. He said the subdivision regulations need to be tailored to the community itself.
“It’ll be up to this planning commission to decide if we want to set a minimum number of lots before we require a traffic study,” Rush said. “And so that’ is what we’ve been batting around.”
In addition, Rush said they will no longer accept certified checks and money orders as acceptable surety instruments. He said they plan to only use letters of credit from local banks.
