Putnam Participating In Ride Shares For New Year’s Eve

Putnam County Sheriff’s Office and Cookeville Police Department will be offering rides for Putnam residents this New Year’s Eve.

Sheriff Eddie Farris said protection and safety of all citizens is his number one concern.

“We have several wrecks and certainly our fair share of wrecks and fatalities here in Putnam County throughout the year, and one is too many,” Farris said. “So, anything that we can do to stop that before it occurs is certainly something the Sheriff’s Office wants to be a part of.”

When receiving a call for a ride, Farris said deputies will be using UCHRA vehicles for transit. Farris said if the destination is far out in the county, deputies will use patrol vehicles.

“This is New Year’s Eve, and we are certainly putting an emphasis on this time throughout the year, but anytime somebody realizes they have had too much to drink or one of their loved ones or friends or family and just don’t have the means to secure a ride home. They can always call the Sheriff’s Office. We are here to serve the citizens.”

The shared rides are a part of UCHRA’s free ride partnership. From 9:00 p.m. until 2:30 a.m. New Year’s night, revelers can call 833-UCTRIPS (833-828-7477) to arrange a ride home. The service can not be used for transportation to other parties.
