Putnam High Schools See Increased Attendance

Putnam County high schools have experienced a growth in attendance numbers from the previous academic year.

According to Attendance Supervisor Chris Pierce, Cookeville High School has seen the largest increase over the summer, increasing its population by 7.5 percent and adding over 160 students.

Meanwhile, Upperman High School also saw its student population increase by six percent with Monterey High School not far behind with a 5.8 percent increase in students.

Pierce said the Putnam County School System’s overall student population increased over the summer from 11,550 students in May to 11,721 as of Monday. Schools with the most growth in the county, according to Pierce, include Sycamore and Jere Whitson Elementary Schools as well as Avery Trace Middle School.
