Putnam Fire Station On Gainesboro Grade Closer To Completion

The bid to rough in a new Putnam County fire station on Gainesboro Grade has been awarded.

County Fire Chief Tom Brown said the price for this portion of work on the fire station came in at $41,000. Brown said there is still work to be done before the new station becomes operational.

“The building will be closed in, we’ll still have to complete the interior,” Brown said. “Which we do, along with building maintenance, build a wall, the kitchen, that kind of stuff.”

Brown said the station will be at the Hyder Farm, providing fire coverage to the County Farm area and surrounding subdivisions. Brown said he anticipates it being another year before there is a fire engine stationed at the building.

“The new subdivision on the Grade, Town Place, Castlebrook, Huntington Woods, Brookwood subdivision,” Brown said. “The County Farm and Gainesboro Grade area.”

Brown said that adding an additional station in the area is a long time need that is just now getting addressed. Brown said the previous bid on this project expired, while waiting on the deed for the land.
