Putnam Fairest Of The Fair Winner Has Family Legacy In The Event

This year’s Putnam Fairest of the Fair winner has an extensive family legacy in the competition, with her mother and great-grandmother both previously winners of the county pageant.

Kayla Mick said she is still trying to process winning the competition, and that she looks forward to the challenges and opportunities available in the year ahead.

“My great-grandmother won Mrs. Putnam County and my mom, Dr. Christina Mick, was the 1987 Fairest of the Fair,” Mick said. “So I just feel so humbled and blessed for the opportunity to be able to continue the tradition of the Putnam County Fair and see how I can impact Putnam County this year.”

Mick said her mother, in particular, has been an important figure of encouragement during her time in the competition, telling her stories about her own experience and advising her. She said she has also received much support from her coaches and friends who were also very important in her win.

Mick said the competition has helped her grow as a person, really forcing her to come out of her shell and learn new skills. She said that before a competition she doesn’t have a specific routine, she just does her best to know her stuff and calm her nerves.

“I did some interview prep before the pageant and I also like to blast some of my music in the car, just get some of those nerves out, and really have fun,” Mick said.

Mick said the competition is so fresh on her mind that she hasn’t had a chance to think of the future and how she might continue the legacy. She said she would encourage any who have an interest in the pageant to join it, and that she would not trade her experience for anything else.

“There are so many reasons to compete in the Fairest of The Fair pageant,” Mick said. “I’ve made so many lifelong friends over the past three years of competing.”
