Following morning surveys by EMA personnel, Putnam County received minor damages and flooding as a result of Thursday’s rainfall.
EMA Director Tyler Smith said there are still a few areas with water across the road such as Green Mountain Road. He said with some more forecasted rain this weekend, they will be monitoring the weather.
“Any heavy rain we could get could cause some more flooding, tonight’s not as bad, tomorrow there’s a better chance of thunderstorms,” Smith said. “And then again you never know when those storms are going to slow down and do what they did yesterday and just stay in one area.”
Smith said that type of event is not common, but that different areas received different amounts of rain. He said Algood got close to six inches of rain, with central Putnam County being the hardest hit.
Smith said among some minor flooding in crawl spaces and basements, there was one report of flooding in an Algood apartment. He said as far as reports of major damage, they have not received any.
“I’m sure public works is out cleaning the drains,” Smith said. “I saw a few drains that had some debris over them so I’m sure that’s what they’ll be doing today getting ready for that next rainfall.”
