Putnam Election Commission Holds Final Meeting Before Election Day

Putnam County Election Commission has registered nearly 1,300 new voters in the last three months.

The Election Commission spent time at its Wednesday morning meeting checking 10 percent of the newly registered voters. Administrator of Elections Michele Honeycutt said commissioners undertake the process every three months.

“Confirming that we didn’t make a mistake such as registering someone that didn’t sign their form, or didn’t put where they were born or didn’t put their social (security number),” Honeycutt said. “So that’s what they’re confirming.”

Honeycutt said now that voter registration is closed and the voting machines have been checked, the work begins to prepare for early voting and election day. She said this time is spent to gather necessary materials for officers at all 22 precincts in the county. Early Voting runs from October 19th to November 2nd, with voting day on November 8th.

Honeycutt said the period of time from voter registration closing to the election certification is the busiest time for her office.
