Putnam Residential Development Slowing Down Slightly

Development in Putnam County showing signs of slowing down slightly after its recent boom.

Planning Director Kevin Rush said that doesn’t mean it shows signs of stopping.

“There’s always a lag between development and when the market is hot,” Rush said. “When the market is hot you see people start looking at developing property, but that takes a while to happen. I do think it has slowed some but not tremendously.”

Rush said long-term, he expects more brisk development. He said the county is seeing a large number of people moving in from all over the country, and the demand will drive more residential development.

Rush said most of the development in the county has been residential. He said with the recent development boom, the amount of easily developable land is beginning to decrease.

“We still have a lot of large farms that are still active and being utilized every day in farming activities,” Rush said. “So the land that we’re seeing right now, we’re seeing more developable property but there’s some that require more work to make them developable.”
