The Putnam County School System is still looking for substitute teachers after early school year shortages.
Putnam County School’s HR Director Angie Knight said using a temp agency has helped tremendously in stabilizing substitute numbers. Knight said most days the pool is at 98 percent to 100 percent but the system is still reviewing who they have available.
“We’ve been adding steadily to our current pool, and also we have cleaned our pool by calling everyone that was in it,” Knight said. “There’s about 200 people in the Putnam County sub pool, and making sure they want to sub, they’re willing to sub or if they want to be taken off the list.”
Knight said she is “almost” satisfied with the pool and will continue to add subs. Knight said there is still a need for applicants with a high school diploma or GED and a heart for children.
“We have two meetings per month, and we try to invite between 20 and 25 potential subs in,” Knight said. “We had one today of 22 that were invited to attend today, and those are now being processed for Putnam County subs.”
Knight said the continued need comes from it being a fluid position. Since many substitutes come and go through out the school year.
“A lot of times it’s just a temporary position for them,” Knight said. “While they are looking for a permanent job.”
Knight said the system is using the temp agency Express Employment for a group of about 10 substitutes. Knight said this is for last minute replacements.
