Putnam County Soccer Fields Ready To Play; Lights Next Step

With just a few minor issues left to fix, the Putnam County Soccer Complex near Cookeville High School is basically complete.

Parks and Recreation Director Cody Maynard said there were some top dressing issues to still take care of to level the field, but some practices were already held on the field last month.

“It’s been a project we’ve been working on for years, but I mean as it comes to the end,” Maynard said. “It’s went fairly smooth, and we’re glad to see it. Glad to get it open, and glad to see everyone using them.”

Maynard said the next project is to add lights to the field. Maynard said they will be requesting funding from the County Commission for the lights.

“It’s a large expense,” Maynard said. “We’re working with a couple different contractors and vendors to see what kind of pricing we can get on it, and then we are going to the commission to see what we can do from there.”

Maynard said there is a soccer tournament being planned for the spring that will bring people into the county. He said lighting the soccer field is his next focus.

“It was a great feeling to see the fields open and utilized somewhat this year,” Maynard said. “We expect spring season to see a lot more use on them and hopefully moving forward being a huge asset for the county and the residents of Putnam County.”

Maynard said the fields will be used for the public and leagues.

“We have a couple different rec leagues and travel leagues out there,” Maynard said. “Then we got some lacrosse teams. Different tournament directors come in and put on some tournaments here. It is a very utilized facility.”
