Putnam Pre-School Registration Open, Spaces Left

Pre-school registration remains open for the Putnam County Schools new school year.

Putnam County Schools offers 20 preschool classes across the county. Elementary and Instructional Supervisor Diana Wood said they still have room for children in multiple classes.

“It’s not unusual for us to have openings at this time of year,” Wood said. “But we wanted to put the word out for the community so they can know that this is a great time to register, and make sure that the teacher is ready for your child on the first day of school and it is not kind of a scramble there the week that school is starting.”

Wood said the first school day for kids is August 5th. Wood said they often have openings this late due to some parents not thinking about registration at this time of year.

“Sometimes our parents as they start looking and school is starting that is when they think of it for their pre-schooler,” Wood said. “So sometimes they don’t think about it as much as their school-aged kids about registering early.”

The school system plans to build a wait list for all classes in case situations change. Wood said the classes are grant-funded.

“Each class has twenty students, a teacher, and an assistant,” Wood said. “So we have a one-to-ten ratio which is required, and so we are just looking for kids to take advantage of that opportunity.”

The first week will serve as a transition week for preschool students.

Registration is not available online and parents and guardians must visit the Putnam County Schools District Office at 1400 E Spring Street in Cookeville.
