Putnam County officials will move to the next phase in the county’s transportation survey after the poll was closed Saturday.
County Executive Randy Porter said over a thousand responses were collected from residents through the online survey.
“We were satisfied with the number of people that responded to it,” Porter said. “My goal was to get a thousand [participants] and we exceeded that, so we’re very happy with the responses.”
Porter said the next phase will include compiling the results and presenting it to the transportation committee in the next few weeks. City mayors, planners, and Porter himself will compare the survey’s results with their own list to determine which projects are sent to TDOT for funding.
Porter said participants also recommended projects that were not included in the initial survey.
“We had a lot of comments that were put in about different projects ,” Porter said. “I’m interested to see what those are and hopefully we can have something to give in the next two or three weeks.”
The survey, which was released June 11, received 1,254 total responses, with nearly half coming from Cookeville residents. The survey asked the public’s opinion on multiple proposed road improvement projects, and allowed survey-takers to rank what they considered to be the most needed.
The survey included proposed projects such as new traffic lights in Baxter and brand-new roads in parts of Cookeville.
