Putnam County Justice Center To Open Some Of Remaining Project Bids

Bid proposals on some 10 projects for the new Putnam County Justice Center will close Tuesday evening.

Sheriff Eddie Farris said the projects range from masonry to painting. He said these bids were some of the last to issue for the Justice Center.

“Really the only thing that jumps out to me that is left to bid out after today would be kitchen equipment,” Farris said. “There may be one or two smaller things, but I believe this pretty much, for the big picture, wraps some of the major bids out.”

Although there isn’t even a building yet, Farris said they wanted to bid these projects out on the front end to make sure the work is done as swiftly as possible. He said that based on meetings with the contract managers, the project is still on track to finish by its original completion date.

Farris said he estimates bids to come in over original projections, but still within budget. He said after bids are opened, he and Mayor Randy Porter will take recommendations from the construction manager and decide what bids to approve.

“The construction company can’t wait on another company to get their stuff in,” Farris said. “So not only do these bids and these things that we’re asking for have product and pricing, but they also have timelines and penalties for not meeting those timelines so that is something that is put together as a package. So all of the items are bid out and agreed upon, then everybody should be in line and good to go when we get to their part.”
