Putnam County Fair Kicks-Off Thursday

The 93rd annual Putnam County Fair is set to kick-off Thursday morning.

Fair Board President John Allen said board members have worked all summer to prepare the fairgrounds for next week’s events.

“We’ve been stringing signs, we’ve moved a mountain of hay, we’ve moved tons of gravel and rock, we’ve got hundreds of yards of mulch,” Allen said. “You name it and we’ve done it. For six weeks we’ve been working night and day.”

Allen said fair officials are anticipating a record attendance number following a successful 2018 fair season.

“We had almost 55,000 people come to the fair last year,” Allen said. “That’s the largest crowd in the last 15 years, and I would question if anybody’s ever had more here than 55,000 people in 10 days. Our parking lots were overflowing. People parked at Walmart and walked from Walmart.”

Allen said this year’s theme for the fair will be ‘Back at the Barnyard’, featuring events and booths centered around farm life and animals.

“We will have live demonstrations, you can pump water like your great-grandmother did,” Allen said. “We’ve got a petting zoo with farm animals [and] a few exotics, but mostly farm animals. If all goes well we’ll have a baby calf born during the fair.”

A list of events for this year’s Putnam County Fair can be found online. The fair will run through Aug. 10.
